Walker County government was recently subjected to an environmental inspection, due to an anonymous complaint.
A letter to the Environmental Project Division, supposedly from information provided by an unnamed county employee, alleges that oil drugs have been buried on property at the Roads Department near Chickamauga. The letter stated that four drums of oil had been buried beneath an unused bus, that has been parked at the facility for years.
EPD investigators did a number of tests on the alleged disposal sight and closed the investigation due to a lack of evidence.
The county's coordinator said the county has no reason to bury waste for disposal because the roads department recently installed an EPA approved furnace that burns waste oil.
Commissioner Bebe Heiskell says she is looking into a request that the GBI investigate the source of the anonymous complaint.
