April is National child abuse prevention month. According to the American Society for the Positive Care of Children, a report of child abuse is filed every ten seconds in America. Child abuse reports involved more than 7.2 million children each year.

Chattooga County DFCS had their Pinwheels for Prevention ceremony on March 27th where many of community partners joined them to plant pinwheels in front of their office on Highway 48 in Summerville to be displayed for the month of April to bring awareness for child abuse and neglect prevention.

The ceremony is hosted each year by Chattooga Family Connection and Chattooga County  DFCS.

There are 154 pinwheels in front of the local DFCS office to represent the 154 children who were the victims of abuse and/or neglect in 2017 in Chattooga County.  Participants also released two white balloons in memory of two children who passed away last year.

In the month of April, these local organizations are working to spread awareness of child abuse and teach prevention.
