A 30-year-old Armuchee man was taken into custody over the weekend following an incident involving two women, aged 72 and 73, resulting in multiple serious charges, including the exploitation or intimidation of the elderly.

Austin Thomas Harrison, of Armuchee, was arrested and booked into the Floyd County Jail on Sunday. According to jail records, the charges stem from an aggressive confrontation where Harrison allegedly disrupted an emergency call and damaged property.

The most serious charge, exploitation or intimidation of the elderly, relates to actions aimed at both victims.

According to the arrest report detailed in Floyd County Jail records, Harrison first interfered with the 72-year-old woman as she attempted to seek help. Harrison allegedly took the phone away from her while she was dialing 911, an action that led to the charge of obstructing or hindering persons making emergency telephone calls.

The report further specifies that Harrison screamed and cursed at the 72-year-old victim before throwing her phone.

Harrison’s aggressive behavior also reportedly extended to a second victim, a 73-year-old woman. Jail records indicate Harrison screamed at the 73-year-old and then threw her chair, resulting in the destruction of the property. This property damage led to an additional charge of criminal trespass.

Harrison is being held at the Floyd County Jail facing the following charges:

  • Exploitation and Intimidation of the Elderly
  • Obstructing or Hindering Persons Making Emergency Telephone Calls
  • Criminal Trespass
