The investigation into a fatal hit and run accident that killed a Crossville man continues and a Collinsville man has been arrested and charged. According to Alabama State Troopers, 21 year old Marcos Grabe Fernandez was arrested around 11 a.m. Friday at his home in DeKalb County. He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, which is a felony. Fernandez is in the Marshall County jail.
The wreck happened last Tuesday night on Double Bridges Road when Christopher Lavaughn Davis, 46, was riding his bicycle and was struck by a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe allegedly driven by Fernandez. Davis is believed to have been struck between 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. in front of Union Congressional Methodist Church, which is on Double Bridges Road, just off Alabama Highway 168 not far from the border of Marshall and DeKalb counties.
His body was found about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday by a passerby. Several pieces of the vehicle that apparently struck Davis were found. The vehicle was found Wednesday night behind a church in Albertville, not far from where the wreck happened. Troopers said no further information will be released as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
