For the second consecutive year, Atrium Health Floyd, in collaboration with the Georgia Emergency Medical Services Association (GEMSA), is set to host the EMS Trauma Summit at The Forum River Center in downtown Rome on February 19, 2024. Running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the summit aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of EMS members across the state in the critical care of trauma patients.* Participants will have the unique opportunity to earn educational credits while networking with fellow EMS professionals, sharing insights, and staying informed about the latest advancements in trauma care.

The event will feature keynote speaker Dr. Jeff Jarvis, the medical director and chief medical officer for the Metropolitan Area EMS Authority in Fort Worth, Texas, who will share his expertise on improving trauma patient outcomes. In addition to the main summit, GEMSA will also host a trauma skills procedure lab on February 18, which will require a nominal fee of $5. This lab is open to EMS professionals, first responders, nurses, and other staff members who work with trauma patients. Attendees can choose between two sessions—either from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. or from noon to 4 p.m.—and will rotate through various stations designed to enhance their understanding of injury treatment while earning continuing medical education credits.

Due to limited space, early registration is encouraged. Bud Owens, executive director of Atrium Health Floyd EMS, expressed enthusiasm about the event, stating, “We are excited about hosting the summit again this year. This opportunity allows EMS professionals, nurses, and physicians to learn how we can better provide trauma care for our region and state.”

For those interested in attending the Trauma Summit or the procedure lab, registration is now open.
