Atrium Health Floyd is expanding services in Chattooga County over the next several months. Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry has awarded the EMS contract to Atrium Health Floyd and in May of this year, the organization committed to building a free-standing emergency department in Chattooga County.
Atrium Health Floyd says that the new emergency department will expand medical services to an underserved population in Chattooga County. Atrium Health system currently operates seven free-standing emergency departments in North Carolina. The department will be the first of its kind in Northwest Georgia. Groundbreaking for the new freestanding emergency department is expected to be sometime in August. Atrium says that the department will be completed by 2023.
The medical facility will be constructed near Walmart on Highway 27 between Summerville and Trion. Atrium is expected to spend $18.4 million on the department.
