October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a yearly campaign to raise awareness about the disease that impacts millions of women globally. Organizations, healthcare providers, and communities collaborate to educate the public on breast cancer, its risk factors, early detection methods, and the importance of regular screenings. AtriumHealth Floyd emphasizes the importance of mammograms in combating breast cancer. The Breast Center at Atrium Health Floyd offers the “Know in 24” promise, providing same-day or next-day results for mammograms, with additional testing available promptly if needed. The center offers various diagnostic services, including clinical breast exams, mammograms, 3D mammography, genetic testing, breast ultrasound, and MRI. The Mobile Mammography Coach, launched in 2008, offers digital mammograms to women in rural areas comfortably and privately. A second mobile unit will soon be located at Atrium Health Floyd’s emergency department in Chattooga County to improve access to breast health services for underserved women in rural areas.
