AM 1180 had an exclusive interview with gubernatorial candidate Senator Jason Carter during his visit to Chattooga County, focusing on his plans for education, unemployment, and the economy. The interview will air this morning after the 8AM news.
The Chattooga County Democratic Party hosted the 18th Annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner last night at the Chattooga Civic Center. Business went underway as Party Leader Tim Shiflett hosted the events. Ollie Cash and Claude Baker were both inducted into the Chattooga County Democratic Hall of Fame. Pam Albert was awarded Democrat of the Year. The Susan Kellett Jones Service Award was presented to Clemmie Walker Black.
Several statewide political candidates were in attendance: Greg Hecht, candidate for Attorney General, Valarie Wilson, candidate for State School Superintendent, and Jason Carter, candidate for Governor of Georgia. Each candidate spoke and focused on many of the same issues, from ethics to unemployment, and most importantly education. Senator Carter explained a two part plan for education development and in turn, economic development. Senator Carter wants to A. create a separate education budget and B. to instill a vision of what education is, focusing on growing the teacher workforce, which has suffered a loss of 9,000 employees due to cuts.

Both local football teams in Chattooga County were on the road last night, and both came home as victors. Trion traveled to Lafeyette to face the Ramblers and Chattooga traveled south to Roswell to play against Fellowship Christian. Trion won with a score of 29 to 21 as well as Chattooga with 34 to 17.
The City of Summerville Public Works has announced that the water will be turned off in the area of Dickeyville Road for the next two hours due to repairs.
A woman's home on Highway 337 was burglarized on September 7th.
Chattooga County officers responded to the call and met the homeowner. Officers could see that the front door of the home was broken into and had noticeable damage on the face and the frame. The door was opened with so much force that the doorknob left a hole in the inside wall.
Mattresses had also been moved from their beds, and cabinets were opened throughout the home. A television was stolen from the living room and a jewelry box had been taken as well, along with other items.
The homeowner told officers that her items were intact when she left for church that morning around 10:00.
The case is still under investigation.
On September 6th, Chattooga County officers were called to Old Highway 27 in Trion in response to a verbal/physical domestic violence in progress.
One woman was sitting in her car with a small child in her lap when the officers arrived. The woman called officers after her boyfriend had been drinking and became angry.
To protect herself, the woman locked herself and the child in the car. Her boyfriend began screaming and kicking at the car. He eventually tried to climb into the car through the sun roof and tried to pull the top window open with his hands.
The boyfriend eventually left the home and the woman called 911. Officers observed dirt and sweat on all four doors and windshield of the car, and hand prints on the sun roof that had been opened a few inches.
Officers filed a report and attempted to locate the boyfriend for questioning. The case is still under investigation.
A woman traveled to the Chattooga County Jail to report what she believes was an attempted rape on September 5th.
The woman had been staying at a residence on Jason Drive while separated from her husband. A male living at the residence with her began touching her inappropriately, and when she told him to stop, he became aggressive. He also told the woman that if she did not have sex with him, he would kick her out of the house.
The woman's husband then entered the home and fought off the man. The case is being investigated by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department.
Chattooga County officers were called to Dry Valley Road on September 4th.
One young woman called 911 after experiencing sexual harassment from her mother's boyfriend. The boyfriend commented on her appearance several times inappropriately. When asked if the boyfriend had ever touched her inappropriately, the woman replied no.
When the woman's mother was questioned about the harassment, she told officers that she was already aware of the comments, and that he was making the comments to boost her daughter's self-esteem.
The young woman went to stay with a family member for the night after officers left the home.
A woman called Chattooga County officers after discovering that her home had been broken into.
The woman had just returned home on Wednesday, September 3rd after being incarcerated for several weeks. She noticed that her front door had been damaged and several items inside her home were missing.
Officers discovered footprints outside of the home and that the back door had been damaged.
The homeowner's main concern of her missing belongings included a memory card from her camera that held pictures of her father that could not be replaced.
The incident is still under investigation.
Chattooga County officers were called to Northern Heights Circle on August 30th in response to a domestic violence report.
The complainant told officers that he had been shopping in Calhoun with his wife and when they returned home, their son arrived as well. When the father asked his son to leave, the son became angry and started to yell. The son also allegedly grabbed his father and began to hit him in the face.
The father said that once he was able to get away from his son, he called 911. The son ran away from the house and was gone before the officers arrived at the residence.
