Last Saturday, September 13th, a Chattooga County Deputy was called to the Cross Roads Market on Highway 48.

A driver struck a pedestrian in the parking lot of the store. The man that had been struck called officers about the incident told them that a silver truck pulled into the parking lot. The passenger side front bumper struck the man, then proceeded to hit a curb and flatten the truck's tire. 

The man recognized the driver as Mr. Jason Pickle, but could not name the male passenger in the front of the truck with Mr. Pickle. The man had a sore shoulder but would not seek medical attention. The man knew that the incident was on film, so he was able to show officers the tape.

The man told officers that Mr. Pickle's wife came to the store to check on him to see that he was alright and to apologize.

The officer was able to review the footage and confirm that a silver truck struck the man.

The officer then traveled to Mr. Pickle's home to investigate further. He found a silver truck in the driveway with damage on the front passenger side and a flat tire. When he went inside to speak to Mr. Pickle, he found that he could not stand up easily and eventually admitted to drinking earlier that night and driving from the Barn Dance. He did not, however, remember hitting anyone.

The passenger in the truck at the time of the accident was not identified. 

Mr. Pickle was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Failure to Report an Accident and Reckless Driving. 

A burglary on Ben Mosley Circle brought Chattooga County officers to a home on September 14th.

A couple had gone to church and arrived home to discover some items inside their home were misplaced. They also noticed that the back door to the home had been left open, but appliances had been left in front of the door so that it could not be opened before.

The items missing included two sets of diamond earrings and a Rolex watch. The value of the missing jewelry is nearly $4,000.

The case is still under investigation. 

On September 13th, Chattooga County officers were called to Melba Drive due to a domestic dispute.

The woman that called officers told them that her grandson got into a verbal argument with her and his mother. Apparently he initially became angry when he woke up and they did not have any cigarettes for him. He became irate with them and began throwing things around the house kicked down the front door and began swearing at them. 

The grandson was destroying the house when she called 911. After he learned that she called officers, he left the house.

The woman estimated the value of the damages to the house around $150.

She wished to report the incident to press charges for the damages. 

Chattooga County officers were called to Dogwood Circle on Saturday, September 10th.

A woman came to her home and discovered that her meter box for her power had been removed and her power had been turned off. Cable wires under her house had also been cut. 

One officer noted that the book door appeared as if someone had attempted to enter through but failed. The woman called her power company and learned that her landlord told the company that she needed the meter box for repairs. The woman told officers that the power was in her own name and not her landlord's, so officers arranged for someone to replace the box and turn the power back on.

The woman and her landlord already had a court hearing set before the incident. 

Chattooga County officers were called to a home on Highway 337 in Menlo on September 10th.

The homeowner told one officer that she met her ex-boyfriend at Menlo Park, but when he became upset she decided to go home. When she got into her car, her ex-boyfriend entered the passenger side and refused to exit.

The ex-boyfriend became so upset that he slammed the middle console's cover down and broke it before leaving the vehicle. He also followed the complainant to her house. Once the two were close to entering the driveway, he drove so close to her car that they nearly collided.

Before spinning his tires in the process of leaving the home, the ex-boyfriend also yelled at the homeowner excitedly. The woman told officers that he had been calling her home and cell phone repeatedly since the episode, as well as driving by her home to watch her from the road.

When the officer was present at the home, the ex-boyfriend attempted to call the woman again. When the woman passed the phone to her father, he told the ex-boyfriend to come talk to them in person. The ex-boyfriend refused.  

Chattooga County officers were called to Cooper Heights Road on September 9th after receiving a report of a theft. 

The homeowner living on Cooper Heights told officers that he let a friend stay the night at his house the night before, but when he woke up, he could not find his friend.

Upon looking for his friend, the homeowner also noticed some items were missing as well. The items included a paintball gun, headphones, and twenty dollars that had been in his wallet.

The homeowner attempted to call his friend but never received a response. He told officers that he wanted to file a report in case his friend did not return the items. 

Chattooga County officers were called to the Highway 27 Walmart in response to a report of shoplifting.

The employee that called officers reported that an unknown African American male came into the store two separate times and left the store without paying for items both times. The items that were accounted for totaled over $700.

The first attempt to shoplift included merchandise like a University of Georgia duffle bag, laundry detergent, and other items that were valued around $50.

The second attempt included a computer monitor, air conditioning parts, three cases of beer, and two spiderwraps. The estimated value of the second trip was near $660. 

The suspect was caught on surveillance camera. 

The volleyball squad has a busy week, with matches on tap Monday at Armuchee, Tuesday at LaFayette, and Thursday at home vs. Calhoun and Gordon Lee. Thursday's match will begin at 4:00.

Softball this week sees Dade Co. coming to Summerville on Tuesday, while Thursday brings an away game at Armuchee.

The football team will look to make it two wins in a row on Friday, when the Pepperell Dragons (0-3) come to town. The JV team will take their 2-0 record to LaFayette on Thursday afternoon, to take on the Ramblers.

A woman was discovered squatting in one man's alternate rental home on September 10th.

The home on Oak Hill Road in Lyerly had been cleaned and renovated about four months ago, according to the owner, who lives in Dawsonville, Georgia. He discovered that someone had begun living there after finding various possessions around the outside of the home, along with pets wandering around as well.

A friend of the suspect confirmed to Chattooga County officers that the suspect had moved into the empty house. When officers went to the home to locate the suspect, she was not present.

The owner told officers that he would need the home cleaned and as he left it by today, the 15th. When the report was filed, officers were still attempting to locate the suspect.
