Mrs. Barbara Jean Elsberry, age 81, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday,
August 17, 2014 at the Floyd Medical Center.
Mrs. Elsberry was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on February 25, 1933,
daughter of the late Charlie Teague and Dellie Busby Teague. She was of the
Baptist Faith and prior to her retirement in 1995, was employed with the
Karastan Bigelow Carpet Mill. Mrs. Elsberry was preceded in death by her husband
of 62 years, Ed Elsberry, on May 3, 2012; an infant son, Edwin Brinton Elsberry;
an infant daughter, Jennie Gale Elsberry; and her brothers, Donald Teague, Hoyt
Teague and Johnny Teague.
Mrs. Elsberry is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Cindi
Elsberry; grandchildren, Trent Elsberry, Bradyn Elsberry, and Kasen Elsberry;
brother and sister-in-law, Eddie Ray and Geneva Teague; sisters and
brothers-in-law, Shirley and Rayburn Hughes and Linda and Gerald Carroll;
brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill Elsberry, Sarah and Harold Duke, Naomi
and Bill Ramsey, Patsy Elsberry, Pat Elsberry, and Billie Faye Elsberry;
extended family, Bill and Joanna Gilbert and Steven, Melanie and Claire Gilbert;
and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Elsberry will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 2:00
P.M, in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Alton Stamey
officiating and Mr. Bill Gilbert delivering the Eulogy. Interment will be in the
Summerville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Smith, Steven Gilbert, Tony Dowdy, Jeff Ramsey, Lanny
Thomas, Trent Elsberry and Bradyn Elsberry. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nieces
and Nephews.
Mrs. Elsberry will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will
receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 P.M. until the funeral hour. At
other hours the family can be contacted at the residence, 174 Kirby Street,
Summerville.

The Trion Bulldogs pulled out a victory over the Chattooga Indians late in the game Friday night in the 6th annual scrimmage. Both teams were successful in getting a number of players into the game so the coaching staff could evaluate personnel for their upcoming matchups.
The first score of the game was early in the first quarter when the Trion Bulldogs took over after a 35 yard punt return by Gabe Howell. Trion continued to march down to the 2 yard line where on 4th and 2, Gabe Howell scored. The extra point was good and put Trion up 7 to 0.
Both Chattooga and Trion moved the ball back and forth, but it wasn't until after halftime that there would be another score. Chattooga's Tyler Griffin makes a great catch in the 3rd quarter with :18 seconds left for the Indians' first score of the night. The extra point was good, bringing Chattooga even with Trion at 7.
And the final points of the game came in the 4th quarter when JJ Jennings scores for Trion. The point after attempt was no good leaving the Final score from Sam R. McCain Stadium: Trion 13 Chattooga 7.
This program will cover integrated pest management ideas for identifying and controlling problems encountered in the small commercial vegetable garden. Disease, insect and cultural issues will be discussed. Both organic and non-organic practices and solutions will be covered. Participants will learn how to correctly identify common problems in the vegetable garden and how to select the best control measure. While designed for small market vegetable growers, this program will also appeal to home gardeners and Master Gardeners alike.
Dr. Kris Braman, UGA Entomologist, Bob Westerfield, UGA Horticulturist and Dr. Elizabeth Little, UGA Plant Pathology Extension Specialist, are coordinating the program.
Wade Hutcheson, UGA Spalding County Extension Coordinator, Dr. Frank Hale, University of Tennessee Entomologist and Dr. Ayanava Majumdar, Alabama Extension Entomologist, will also be program speakers.
Five hours of commercial pesticide credit in Category 21 and one hour of private pesticide credit will be offered.

Chattooga County officers were brought to Trion Teloga Road on August 6th in regards to a domestic dispute.
One man, identified as Jeremy Rogers, allegedly was helping his children do their homework when his wife came into the room and began arguing while their children watched.
Mr. Rogers' wife Rachel said that she was watching a movie, and went to step outside when their dog ran off. When she allegedly asked her husband for help, he began yelling at her.
The Rogers were taken to Chattooga County Jail for Disorderly Conduct.
A woman called Chattooga County officers after making a discovery at the Highway 27 Walmart.
The woman noticed damage to her vehicle as she was leaving the store. She noticed a large scratch on the driver's side front fender and a scratch on the back passenger side of the car.
The case is still under investigation.
A Chattooga County officer pulled over a driver travelling on Highway 114 on Thursday, August 7th.
The officer pulled the driver over after seeing that he or she did not have tag lights and the tag number did not match the model of the car. When the driver, later identified as James Denton, was asked for his license, he said that he did not have it on his person. He admitted that it was suspended for child support obligations. The officer ran Mr. Denton's license through the 911 service and his story was proven true.
Mr. Denton was taken into custody for driving with a suspended license.
The next meeting of The Chattooga Beekeeepers will be held on Tuesday, August 12 at 7pm. This month's meeting will be at the Chattooga County Extension Office. Our focus for the evening will be removing bees from structures. If you are interested in honeybees or would like to learn more about honey production, please join us.
A burglar alarm brought Chattooga County officers to a home on Lyerly Dam Road on August 4th.
Officers discovered a broken window and a metal object used to attempt to open one of the doors to the home. Since one of the officers knew the homeowners personally, he attempted to call them, but could not reach them. After he made contact with the homeowner's sister-in-law, she agreed to meet them at the home to verify if any items were taken inside the home.
The damage to the window and door frame was noted, but no missing items were noted.
The case is still under investigation.
Chattooga County officers raced to Sloppy Floyd Lake Road after a loud disturbance was reported.
One man was completing yard work when he heard his neighbor yelling and cursing in her residence. He then heard gunshots coming from inside her home. He went to the house and knocked on the door to ask if she was okay. The woman answered, but told her neighbor to leave her home. The man immediately called 911.
After several minutes of the officers trying to get the woman to step out of her home, she finally stepped outside.
She told officers that she felt like someone was coming into her home and taking things, and sometimes even moving them around. She also mentioned that someone would chant a woman's name outside her bedroom window, and that she could hear voices telling her different things.
Officers discovered that the woman had shot around 16-18 holes in the ceiling of her bedroom. The woman was transported to a facility in Cedartown for a mental evaluation.
