The terms of an intergovernmental contract with Hutcheson Medical Center’s Hospital Authority continue to morph on a monthly basis.

The Catoosa County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, May 8, approved a new contract that backs $550,000 on loan from Erlanger Health System to cover immediate needs.

Commissioners went into a closed-door meeting prior to approving the new contract.

Since December, Catoosa commissioners have been working with Hutcheson Medical Center in Fort Oglethorpe to restructure debts left by the prior administration.

The finalization of a short-term bond anticipation note, which would lead to long-term financing options, is expected to close in the next 30 days, according to commission attorney Chad Young.

But a few wrinkles in the overall plan have come up. Most recently was the immediate need for $550,000. This money was loaned from Erlanger Health System, which oversees Hutcheson, in order for Hutcheson to get an IT (information technology) system online.

Police in Fort Payne say a district attorney’s investigator has been charged with drunken driving after a witness saw his car hit a guardrail on Interstate 59.

Al.com reports police arrested Gary Williams during a traffic stop at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Fort Payne Police Chief Randy Bynum says Williams is an investigator for the district attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit, which covers DeKalb and Cherokee counties.

Bynum says a motorist called police after seeing Williams’ Dodge Charger strike a guardrail before turning north on Highway 35 toward Rainsville. He says police officers saw the car moving erratically before they pulled Williams over.

City of Summerville  is expected to authorize a new meter reader position in it's regular monthly meeting Monday.

Agenda Items include:

*Award bid for rewiring Water Treatment Plant.

*Reject bid for roof at Lowe Springs.

*Set dates for budget work sessions and adoption.

*Authorize expenditure of $16,000 for cleaning out sediment ponds at water treatment plant.

*Authorize new meter reader position.

*Approve facade renovation in Historic District.

*Second reading & approval of ordinances regarding distilled spirits.

*GMA/Carl Vinson Institute of government pilot program.

The meeting is set for Monday May 13,  5 p.m, at City Hall. The public is invited to attend.

An allegation of shoplifting led to the arrest of a Summerville woman on other charges.

According to the report by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department, it was reported that two women were shoplifting at Walmart. One woman reportedly paid for two items and left with other items she hadn't paid for inside her purse. When confronted outside the store, the woman is alleged to have handed over the items the allegedly hadn't paid for, to the store manager. The woman then is reported to have taken off running, to her vehicle and fleeing the scene.

A Be On The Lookout, or BOLO, was put on the vehicle and it was quickly found by a Summerville Police Officer and stopped in the parking lot of the Mr. Clean Car Wash.  Crystal Brown, of Kay Street, Summerville, said she had no insurance on the vehicle. Her license also came back with a suspended registration, Brown's license came back suspended, as well as a failure to appear. Brown was arrested and taken to the Chattooga County Jail.

Chattooga County Sheriff's Deputies received a report of a quick change maneuver at Walmart earlier this week.

According to the report, a black male, wearing a black hat with white lettering on the front, blue jeans, and grey and white shirt, short/quick changed a cashier in the amount of $300. Next in line was another black male, wearing grey jogging pants and red shoes. The second man asked the cashier for stamps but quickly left when the cashier said she had none. Both men left in a red, 2013 Chevy Impala four door. The vehicle reportedly came back to Avis Budget Car Rental. The incident was turned over to investigators.
