Tips from a number of different sources led authorities to the raid of two Polk County businesses Thursday night, resulting in the seizure of illegal synthetic marijuana.

According to Polk County Assistant Police Chief Kiki Campbell, an ongoing investigation into numerous complaints that two convenience stores in the Rockmart area were selling the illegal synthetic drugs, culminated in the Thursday night multi-agency raid.

"Polk County Drug Task Force executed two search warrants on two local convenience stores in the Rockmart area. It’s been an ongoing investigation with numerous reports out of the Cedartown and Rockmart area."

The clerk of the Village Market, Jorge Cervantes, and Asish Patel, the owner are both charged with similar crimes including felony Possession and Distribution of Schedule I Narcotics. The owner and clerk of the J.B. Food Mart on Cedartown Highway were also charged in the raid. Their names were not immediately known.

The raid took in thousands of dollars worth of the illegal drugs. Campbell said much of the information provided to authorities in the investigation came from the Dakota Dyer Foundation, an Bremen based organization aimed at preventing the distribution and sale of synthetic marijuana. 

This is your last weekend to burn yard debris outdoors. The annual burn ban goes into effect next Wednesday, May 1.

Chattooga, Walker and Catoosa counties fall under the annual burn ban from the first of May through September 30. ,  It's an effort to cut air pollution due to ozone and particulates during the summer months.

The burn ban is a requirement of the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.  I

Walker County is still reportedly in the running for a new manufacturing plant. However the name is being kept a secret, at their request

The firm is looking at Walker County, plus sites in Alabama and Mississippi. The county's economic developer and commissioner traveled to Pennsylvania Three weeks ago to meet with the company and agents of the corporation in question have visited Walker county each of the last two weeks. 

The firm plans an initial phase, followed by expansions so they reportedly need plenty of land.

Several expansion projects with existing industries in Walker County and Lafayette are also reportedly in the works, but details have yet to be released.

A Summerville woman was arrested Tuesday after a domestic dispute involving property.

According to the Sheriff's Department report, 40-year-old Tammie Denise Willbanks and 31-year-old Justin Ward argued at their Stenitt Road, Summerville home. Willbanks reportedly left in a U-Haul before officers arrived.

Ward said they argued over property and Willbanks struck him on the arm. Officers reportedly saw a red oval mark just larger than a softball on Ward's arm. Once contact was made with Wilbanks, she said she had hit Ward. She was charged with disorderly conduct. 

A Chickamauga woman was arrested last Sunday, April 21, at a Chattooga County license check point.

First deputies noticed that 28-year-old Katie Lorraine Brown, of a Akins Road, Chickamauga, address, was driving with an expired license. Then officers found out brown was on probation for possession of methamphetamine. A search of the woman's vehicle reportedly turned up a scale and a bottle of Xanax, as well as "small bags" in her purse.  Brown was charged with a violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act.

A safe was stolen from a Magnolia Ridge  Road home on April 20 and found intact behind the home the next day.

According to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department report, someone entered through the window at the rear of the house. Reported taken was a safe that contained household papers, jewelry and a money bag.  The homeowner reported to deputies that the next day, he found the safe in the woods behind the house. A digital pad reportedly was missing from the safe, but the safe had not been opened and appeared to still be secure. A gun was also found near the safe, according to the report.
