Police were called to Mount Berry Square Mall Thursday morning in response to a suspicious package but officials now say it was a false alarm.
The box was filled with recycled plastic bottles according to Mt. Berry's Ann Smith.
Major Tommy McGuire with the Floyd Sheriff's Field Operations Department confirmed a call about the package had been received but said no bomb threat was ever called in.
The mall was not evacuated.
Mohawk Industries will be utilizing the services of the state Labor Department later this week at the Rome Career Center in an effort to recruit new employees.
The Calhoun-based manufacturing company is looking to fill a wide variety of positions including lift truck and twister operators, customer service representatives, financial and accounting analysts and even a licensed nurse with two years of experience.
All applicants will be drug-screened onsite at the recruitment. Those looking to apply for any job must have a high school diploma or GED and anyone applying for a professional position must have at least a bachelor’s degree and field experience.
The Mohawk employee recruitment will take place from 9 am to noon Friday at Rome Career Center on Riverside Parkway.
Floyd County Schools received an email this week informing them that the State Board of Education`s charter committee will look at the possibility of the system`s charter contract being violated. An advisory committee has asked the board to look at if February`s Reduction In Force (FIF), violated the system`s agreement. The Charter Advisory Committee voted unanimously that the system breached its agreement by not involving the Local School Governance Teams when the decision was made to layoff 120 of the system`s employees.
Floyd County School`s Superintendent Jeff McDaniel said that the system was in compliance with the charter contract and that the system did not have to go to the LSGT when the decision was made to conduct the RIF.

The Center Post Community Center will have a free gospel singing this Saturday night. Groups include Gift of Life Gospel, Traveling By Faith and the York Family. The music starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The Center Post Community Center is on Highway 337, the former Center Post School.
An Airport Road outbuilding was reported burglarized Sunday.
According to the report, the lock was forced off the door during the night. The only thing reported missing was a gas can valued at $20. The investigation is ongoing.
A Highway 27 Storage unit was reported burglarized on Wednesday. According to the Sheriff's Department report, three people apparently had items in the unit. Dustin Cochran and Deanna Kriner reported stolen: a Nintendo 64 with games, and two baby beds with mattresses. Theresa Padgett reported stolen: a curio cabinet, and washer and dryer. Padgett said the last time the items were seen inside the unit was about a month ago. Entry was gained by breaking a lock on the storage building. The incident was turned over to investigators.
THIS WEEK the Hospital Authority announced its support of plans by Catoosa and Walker counties to back consolidation of Hutcheson Hospital's debt through the issuance of bonds.
They also agreed to explore alternative long term operating strategies, including leasing the Fort Oglethorpe operation to a hospital entity.
Hutcheson reported a loss for the month of March, but that was expected, according to CEO Roger Forgey. Earnings for March reflect a 1.6 million dollar improvement over the same month a year ago. It's the fourth consecutive month that the hospital has performed "better than budget."
