Trion Police Officers Wednesday picked up a man on a federal warrant.

Kip Laurice Pearson was being held for U.S. Marshals in the Chattooga County Jail.

According to Trion Police Chief Chad Spraggins, Pearson was picked up during a routine traffic stop on Georgia Street and was a passenger in the vehicle that was stopped.

The vehicle reportedly was being driven  by a local man, with several men as passenger, who were traveling in a work vehicle.

All of the people in the truck were questioned and gave the Trion Police officer all pertinent information when questioned.

Spraggins said the questioning of passengers is routine now that there have been so many burglaries in the area.

Pearson's information came back that he was wanted for a federal probation violation by U.S. Marshals. Spraggins said from his experience, he believes Pearson was on probation for previous federal charges and violated that probation. Spraggins said he doesn't know what the original federal charges are. He said Pearson was not considered dangerous however, and did not resist or cause a problem in any way.  

Floyd County Police arrest four individuals involved with a Tuesday night armed robbery of the Northridge Stop-and-Shop on Calhoun Road. Investigator Rusty Williams says those four arrested each face Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, False Imprisonment, and Battery. They include:

Kaitlynn Morgan, 24, 201 E 10th Street

Matthew Warren, 23, 201 E 10th Street

Jamal Jasper, 23, 3217 Calhoun Road

Michael Chastain, 26, 79 Shamrock Way

A quantity of cash, identification and other items were taken in the Tuesday night robbery.

State Senator Jeff Mullis has filed a resolution calling for a Fort Oglethorpe Charter Study Commission after the sudden dismissal of three top city officials a week ago.

Mullis' resolution says the committee should investigate possible "abuse of power" by the Fort Oglethorpe Mayor and Council. It proposes that a seven member panel be appointed by the Senate delegation representing the Catoosa County City. It will be disbanded at the end of the year.

The resolution  goes on to state that the forced resignation of the city manager and firings of the police chief and pubic works director have "created a great deal of turmoil and consternation among citizens of the city." A recall effort is already being organized among concerned citizens.

The Senate Resolution also directs the committee to study the city charter of Fort Oglethorpe to determine if it needs revision or  amendment to address the "current situation."

The Center Post Community Center will have free music Saturday night. The bands, Marcella Scott and Under Grace will perform from 7-9 p.m. and admission is free. The Community Center is the former Center Post School on Highway 337, South of Lafayette, just past the Chattooga County line. 

A Lafayette man seriously injured in a fight in which police say he was trying to defend his sister.

The woman's husband, Ray Chambers, of a King Street Address, in Linwood, has been charged with aggravated assault and battery.

Lafayette Police say Changers had been "roughing up" his wife, and she called her brother, Bo Frazier, for help. The two men got into a fight and Chambers is alleged to have hit Frazier on the head with a baseball bat.  

Frazier was airlifted by Lifeforce to Erlanger for treatment.

Detectives with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Department are investigating allegations of hazing in the Gordon Central boys soccer program.

According to a press release from Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston the case was first brought to police attention Saturday March 16th when a male juvenile reported he had been the victim of a hazing ritual by another male juvenile. Detectives have since gathered enough evidence to lead them to believe there are more than a dozen victims and a dozen suspects in the case. Ralston stated in addition to criminal Battery, the alleged incidents have also involved “inappropriate contact”, though the nature of that behavior has not been revealed. If charges are filed in the case it will be several weeks until they are leveled as the investigation is ongoing.

Gordon County Schools Superintendent Dr. Susan Remillard was said to be in meetings and unavailable for comment Wednesday morning. Police say school officials are cooperating fully with the investigation.
