On Monday, Rome police investigated  a number of service stations in the Rome-Floyd County area for alleged illegal activity involving electronic gambling machines. The extent of the crimes being investigated is unclear at this time.

According to Rome Police Chief Elaine Snow told WRGA news that a total of seven service stations, four in the city of Rome and three in the county, were occupied by law enforcement on Monday, with crime scene tape and multiple police cars at each location. Among those businesses that were occupied by police Monday were the Rome Food Mart on Redmond Circle, the Citgo on Shorter Avenue and the BP on Martha Berry in Armuchee.

Departments involved included:  the Floyd Police Department, Floyd County Sheriff’s Department, Rome-Floyd Metro Drug Task Force and the district attorney’s office have all been part of the investigation, as well as Rome City Police Department and agents with the Georgia Department of Revenue.   
  

A press release issued said the investigation, which spanned over nine months, culminated Monday morning with agents hitting the stores with search warrants simultaneously around 9 a.m.

The games reportedly are not illegal if operated within the law. The investigation began with citizens complaints.

The Water Wars are still on. Georgia's state senate has passed a resolution calling for access to Tennessee River Water, just North of the Dade County line.

The resolution, presented by Senator David Shafer of Duluth, says "the state of Tennessee has used mismarked boundary lines to block our access to this important waterway." The resolution proposes a settlement to the boundary dispute, caused by an almost 200 year old survey error that pushes the Georgia-Tennessee border nearly a mile south of the actual 35th parallel.

It calls for Georgia to give up rights to reclaim the entire area of land from Tennessee, in exchange for a narrow slot of TVA owned land, which would give Georgia access to Tennessee River water at Nickajack. It directs Georgia's Attorney General to sue to gain control of the entire area to the 35th Parallel, if no agreement is reached with Tennessee.

House Resolution 4 now returns to the Georgia House for agreement on amendments made by the State Senate.
