Diamond Ring, Firearms Stolen

A Lyerly woman reported on Saturday that her diamond ring and other items were stolen from her Lyerly Dam Road home.
 
According to the Sheriff's Department report, Kathryn Rogers said she noticed the diamond ring missing in November,and noticed several other items missing on February 15. She said only two other people live in the home and people seldom visit. Also missing are two firearms. There was no estimated valued of the items listed on the report. The incident has been turned over to investigators.

Woman Allegedly Pulls Knife, Makes Threats

Two people arrested after a dispute at a dispute on Friday.
 
According to the report by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrived at Maplewood Apartments in Summerville and found Anthony Browning, who had said he was taking his trash to the dumpster when Denise Wiggins began yelling and cursing at him, accusing him of stealing medication from her apartment.
 
Earlier that same day, Wiggins  had reported to the Sheriff's Office that her prescription pills were missing from her kitchen table. She named Anthony Browning as one of two suspects. 
 
Browning told deputies that after the two argued, he returned to his apartment, and Wiggins and another woman came to his apartment and began threatening him and he girlfriend. Deputies were also told that  Raven Wiggins pulled a knife on Browning's girlfriend and threatened to use it. One of the women reportedly spit in Browning's face twice, and threatened to beat up his girlfriend if they saw her outside again.   
 
Browning reportedly smelled of alcohol and admitted drinking according to the report.
 
Both, Anthony Browning and Raven Wiggins were charged with  disorderly conduct and taken to jail.

Summerville Man Arrested For Driving on Drugs

A Summerville man pulled over by Chattooga County Sheriff's Deputies on Friday possibly had a large amount of prescription drugs in his system. According to the report, 32-year-old Charles Patrick Tucker, of a Bittings Avenue address, was stopped driving a black Camaro, less than the speed limit down Highway 27, just north of the Summerville City limits. Erratic use of a turn signal and using the signal improperly was the reason cited on the report for the traffic stop.
 
In the report, Chief Deputy Kevin Woods states that Tucker seemed Lethargic and he asked Tucker if he was on any medication. Tucker reportedly admitted to taking Loricet, a Triptyline medication, Floricet and Zanax the night before. He said he also had a prescription for Soma, which he also might have in his system. 
 
During the stop, another deputy found a prescription bottle labled Floricet, with Tucker's name on it. Tucker said he had taken one that morning.
 
Woods arrested Tucker due to his driving, admission of prescription drug usage and the results of the field sobriety tests, all of which Tucker failed.  He was charged with driving of the influence of drugs, and improper use of a turn signal.

Disordely Conduct Charges After Box Fan Incident

A Trion man was arrested on Sunday after an altercation reportedly concerning a propety dispute.
 
According to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department report,  Kenneth Sholtz and Kenny Sholtz went to the Mountain View Road address to change the locks at a residence and was followed by Kenneth Sholtz's stepson, 32-year-old Wesley Steele.
 
Once at the residence Wesley reportedly tried to provoke Kenneth Sholtz into a fight and then picked up a box fan and allegedly threw it at Kenneth Sholtz, hitting him on the leg and hitting Kenny Sholtz on the hand. Six pieces of sheet rock were also reportedly damaged in the incident.
 
According to the report, Kenneth Sholtz and Wesley Steele were having issues concerning ownership of the residence. Steele admitted to the verbal argument and to throwing the box fan, though he said he didn't mean for it to hit anyone.
 
Wesley Steele apologized to both of the men, according to the report. Steele said he had purchased the sheetrock that was damaged. Steele  was charged with disorderly conduct.

Short Foot Chase Ends In Arrest

After a short foot chase Saturday night, a Summerville man was charged with obstruction of officers and resisting arrest.
 
Just past 7:30  that night, officers received a complaint that two suspicious men were on Glen Drive trying to sell video games. When deputies arrived both men were on foot walking toward Memorial Drive. According to the report, 20-year-old Christopher marks was one of two men who was reportedly trying to sell a video camera for $50 for cigarette money.
 
It was soon discovered that there was an active warrant for Marks for a probation violation. When Marks was placed under arrest, Deputy Corey Fielding tried to pat him down, but Marks fled on foot from Glen Drive toward Fields Walk. Fielding shouted several times for him to stop, according to the report. Deputies found Marks a short time later around the 100 block of Field Walk lying face down beside a car at a residence.
 
When he was approached by deputies, Marks reportedly said, "I give up." Marks was taken to the Chattooga County Jail.

Lyerly Man Charged With Simple Battery

A Lyerly man is facing charges after he slapped another man while under the influence of alcohol. According to the Sheriff's Department report, officers were dispatched to a Railroad Avenue, Lyerly address in reference to a fight in progress.
 
While there, Corey Boyd reportedly told officer that while he and his dad were arguing, 39-year-old Terry Glenn Trapp of a Hammond Street, Lyerly address, slapped him in the head. 
 
Officers went to Trapp's home and Trapp said he was the "savior," and Boyd was attacking his father and Trapp broke it up. Trapp said, "yeah, I slapped him." He also admitted to having "a lot" to drink. According to the report, Trapp was heavily intoxicated, could not speak clearly, and was speaking very loudly.   There reportedly were beer cans all over his porch and leading up to the porch. Trapp was charged with simple battery and pedestrian under the influence. He was transported to the Chattooga County Jail by Redmond EMS due to hyperventilation, according to the report.

Obama To Speak At Morehouse

A White House official says President Barack Obama will deliver the commencement address at all-male Morehouse College in Atlanta this spring.

The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. is among the historically black institution's alumni. Commencement is scheduled for May 19.

Obama typically speaks each spring at a handful of college and university commencement ceremonies, including at one of the military service academies.

Last year, he spoke at commencement ceremonies at all-female Barnard College in New York.

The White House official declined to speak for the record because the schedule of Obama's commencement speeches has not been released.
