2 Injured In Head On Collission in Lafayette

Lafayette police are still investigating a head on wreck that injured two Lafayette women on Monday.

Billie England and Laura Wilson were transported by ambulance for treatment of serious injuries.

The wreck happened in from of Professional Park Associates on East Villanow Street. Dr. Suzanne Storey and nurse Jennifer Pickard are credited for helping to stabilize the women before EMT's arrived on the scene.  

Both cars were totaled in the estimated 45-mile per hour impact, and debris from the vehicles was found up to 200 feet away. The elderly Wilson reportedly was trying to turn her Buick into Professional Park and apparently didn't see England's Trailblazer approaching in the opposite lane.

Two Rescued From Burning House In Dalton

Two people were rescued from a burning house in Dalton early Wednesday morning. Both were treated at the scene, transported to Hamilton Medical Center, and then both were flown to the Burn Center in Augusta.

 Fire fighters found a man inside a front bedroom, in cardiac arrest. A woman was located in a back bedroom, and she was not breathing. CPR and ventilation treatments kept both alive until EMT's arrived. Their conditions are not known. The cause of the fire in still under investigation.

All Federal Benefits Go Electronic March 1

With less than two weeks until the March 1, 2013, deadline to pay all federal benefits electronically, the Treasury Department reported today that nearly 129,000 Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks are sent each month to benefit recipients in Georgia.

The Treasury Department is urging Social Security and other federal benefit recipients to not delay and switch now to either direct deposit or the Direct Express® Debit MasterCard® card. Check recipients can sign up fordirect deposit or the Direct Express® card by calling toll-free 1-800-333-1795, visiting www.GoDirect.org, or talking to their local federal paying agency office.

Heating, Air Unit Stolen

A Trion resident reported that someone stole a heating and air unit from an Old Justice Road, Trion residence on February 18. According to the report, the residence had burned in an alleged arson, but the unit was brand new and had not been damaged in the fire. The case has been turned over to investigators. According to the report, a piece of the unit's outer casing was left behind by the thieves and will be tested for fingerprints.

Fort Payne Woman Facing Drug Charges Here

A Fort Payne, Alabama is facing traffic charges in Chattooga County after a traffic stop Monday on Highway 27.
 
Chattooga County Sheriff's Deputies stopped Ellen Hall after she was seen striking the white line,
excessive braking and speed changes. Hall said she was lost and trying to get to Menlo and had been trying to do so for almost 3 hours. Hall's license came back suspended. 
 
A search of her vehicle turned up two packages of Satan Botanical Sachet, a rolled cigarette with suspected synthetic marijuana, and to  small, round blue pills wrapped in white paper.  
 
She was charged with VGCSA./ drugs to be kept in original container and driving with a suspended license. The other items found in the vehicle will be kept in evidence and sent out for further testing, according to the report.

Lyerly Man Charged With Simple Battery

A Lyerly man is facing charges after he slapped another man while under the influence of alcohol. According to the Sheriff's Department report, officers were dispatched to a Railroad Avenue, Lyerly address in reference to a fight in progress.
 
While there, Corey Boyd reportedly told officer that while he and his dad were arguing, 39-year-old Terry Glenn Trapp of a Hammond Street, Lyerly address, slapped him in the head. 
 
Officers went to Trapp's home and Trapp said he was the "savior," and Boyd was attacking his father and Trapp broke it up. Trapp said, "yeah, I slapped him." He also admitted to having "a lot" to drink. According to the report, Trapp was heavily intoxicated, could not speak clearly, and was speaking very loudly.   There reportedly were beer cans all over his porch and leading up to the porch. Trapp was charged with simple battery and pedestrian under the influence. He was transported to the Chattooga County Jail by Redmond EMS due to hyperventilation, according to the report.
