Walker County Attorney Don Oliver has submitted a response to the lawsuit over salary, filed by out-going State Court Judge Bruce Roberts. That response says,  "Reimburse the county for dismissing 53 traffic cases in a single day." Roberts called that action a "spur of the moment decision – sort of an amnesty thing." Roberts' complaint alleges that the county shorted him 72 thousand dollars in pay, compared to the judge he replaced by appointment. Commissioner Beve Heiskell said she negotiated Roberts' 100 thousand dollar annual salary with him, just after he was appointed to the position by the governor and it was more than he had been making in his law practice. Oliver's response alleges that Roberts threw out tickets in an attempt to potentially cause financial harm to the voters and taxpayers of Walker County who had turned him out of office after his bid for re-election  failed and voters opted for Lafayette attorney Billy Mullinax.  The suit is scheduled for May of next year and will be heard by a judge from Rome.

The text book provides a state of the art, updated reference for superlative management of patients with diseases of the kidneys and hypertension.

An auction on Monday at the Forum in Rome resulted in the county making an estimated $65,000. Dempsey Auction company hosted the property auction in which 90 of 123 parcels  were sold. Floyd County acquired the property, some residences, over the past several years.

A woman who lives on Trion Teloga Road called 911 when a bullet hit her house on Monday. According to the report by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office, the bullet went through the wall and landed on the game room floor. The woman told deputies that she started screaming for her neighbors to stop shooting because they had hit her house. She said after she told them that, they fired the gun two more times. She said this isn't the first time that shots had been fired toward her home. She said back in August she said she was actually sprayed with pellets from a gun that was being shot in her direction. Deputies went next door but there was no one home. Photographs were taken and shell cases were recovered from the floor of the home, according to report. The incident is under investigation.

If you're drunk and driving, though polite, it's probably not a good idea to turn on your turn signal every time you cross the white fog line and yellow line on the roadway. That bit of traffic ingenuity however, alerted a Chattooga County Deputy on Saturday, to the fact that he may have discovered an impaired driver. According to the report, the white van, driven by 54-year-old John Lydell Hill, of Centre Alabama, was traveling North on Highway 114, near Mohawk in Lyerly, when the deputy spotted the van with its right turn signal activated as it crossed over the white and yellow lines on the road way several times. The deputy turned on the patrol car lights and activated the siren, stopping the van between Hamp Brewer Circle and Fabric Shack Road. Lydell admitted to the deputy that he had been drinking the night before. However, one 16-0z open Huricane High Gravity alcoholic beverage reportedly was found in the console of the vehicle and Lydell's license came back revoked. He was charged with driving with a suspended/revoked license; failure to maintain a single lane; improper backing; violation of the open container law; and no insurance/proof of insurance. 

The Town of Trion has announced its holiday schedule.

The Town of Trion Business Office, Water Department, Sanitation Department, and Gas Department will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, December 24th and 25th, 2012  for the Christmas Holidays. The Recreation Department will be closed on Monday thru Wednesday, December 24th thru December 26th, 2012.

 The Business Office, Water Department, Sanitation Department, and Gas Department will also be closed Monday and Tuesday, December 31, 2012 and January 1, 2013 for New Year’s holidays.  The Recreation Department will be closed Monday thru Wednesday, December 31, 2012 to January 2, 2013.

Floyd Hospital in Rome has named Pam Camp its latest Floyd Hero. Camp is a social worker for the Floyd Coordinated Care Department. She was nominated for her cool head and compassion. Floyd Heroes are nominated by peers, supervisors, volunteers, or customers for being outstanding employees who serve as role models, inspire others and have an indelible impact on the organization.

Retiring Catoosa County Sheriff Phil Summers has landed a job with the Walker County Sheriff's Department. Sheriff Steve Wilson has hired his friend of 30 years as a deputy in the Court Services Division. Summers decided not to run for re-election after 22 years as sheriff in Catoosa County. Wilson had offered Summers the Walker County job last month. The two Sheriff's  have co-hosted a talk show on cable TV for several years. .
