Floyd Hospital in Rome has named Pam Camp its latest Floyd Hero. Camp is a social worker for the Floyd Coordinated Care Department. She was nominated for her cool head and compassion. Floyd Heroes are nominated by peers, supervisors, volunteers, or customers for being outstanding employees who serve as role models, inspire others and have an indelible impact on the organization.

Retiring Catoosa County Sheriff Phil Summers has landed a job with the Walker County Sheriff's Department. Sheriff Steve Wilson has hired his friend of 30 years as a deputy in the Court Services Division. Summers decided not to run for re-election after 22 years as sheriff in Catoosa County. Wilson had offered Summers the Walker County job last month. The two Sheriff's  have co-hosted a talk show on cable TV for several years. .

Shorter University has been reaccredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, according to SACS president Belle Wheelan.

Shorter University officials confirmed that news Tuesday.

SACs officials visited the college in April amidst a protest about the university’s statement of faith, which faculty and staff members were required to sign.

The reaffirmation continues Shorter University’s accreditation for a 10-year period through 2022.

A woman armed with a knife is facing several charges after in incident last Tuesday. According to the report, Chattooga County deputies and officers with the Summerville Police Department were dispatched to a Maplewood Drive apartment. When Chattooga deputies arrived, Summerville officers  had 20-year-old Raven Wiggins, of a Lamar Street, Rome, address in custody in the back of their patrol car. The report states that when Summerville officers arrived Wiggins had a knife in her hand which they got. Wiggins reportedly went at her brother with the knife and said she was going to kill him after an argument over $20. Three other people collaborated the brother's description of the incident. The incident reportedly  took place in front of Wiggin's young daughter.   Wiggins is charged with aggravated assault and other charges.

A Lafayette man told Chattooga County Sheriff's deputies on Saturday that his stolen dog box turned up at a Pennville pawn shop and was sold.

He said he has attempted to get the dog box back from the person who bought it, even offering to pay for its return to no avail. According to the report, the dog box turned up missing after it was borrowed to transport a dog and though promised to be returned, wasn't. Instead it reportedly was sold to EZ Pawn in Penville, according to the report.  Upon going to the pawn shop, dog box owner, Joseph Wilbanks, of Lafayette said he spoke to the pawn shop owner. who said he would try to get the box back. When Wilbanks tried to find out how much it would take to get the box back he reportedly was told by the shop owner that it was none of his business.

Willbanks said he felt he was getting the run around and told the owner he was going to the Sheriff's Department. The shop owner reportedly told him "good luck proving it." The dog box is silver, aluminum diamond plate, with a tag that says Atalla, Alabama. It has a top storage compartment with a pull handle that opens with a key lock. It is a single box with a twist handle for the one door and was made extra tall. The box is valued at $500, according to the report.

A man who told Chattooga deputies he is a fireman and offered to assist at a structure fire Sunday, is a suspect in that fire and was arrested as a fugitive from justice on a warrant out of Hamilton County, Tennessee. According to the report, Shaun Felton Goodson, approached deputies who were working traffic at a structure fire off Highway 100 Sunday evening. The report indicated that Goodson told deputies he worked for the state and federal fire commission. He also said he lived in walking distance of the fire scene, across the street, at the next residence.

Goodson was told he needed to speak to the fire commander and he began walking southbound on Highway 100 toward his residence. A few minutes later, a man who said he lived next to the fire scene told deputies he had seen a white male, that matched Goodson's description, standing in front of the structure just moments before the fire started. Goodson returned a few minutes later and after getting his name and birth date, deputies checked the information through GCIC. It was soon learned that there was a warrant from Hamilton County, Tennessee for Goodson's arrest on an aggravated domestic assault charge.

Since Goodson had returned back home, officers went to the home. He wasn't there but deputies saw what appeared to be fresh boot prints leading from the house. Goodson was found lying face down in a wooded area about 50 yards from the house.  Goodson was taken to the Chattooga county Jail without incident.

The Georgia Northwestern Bobcats will have a toy drive at their games Tuesday night at the Rossville Athletic Complex. All toys donated will go to the Stocking full of Love Toy Drive. The Bobcats and Lady Cats will host Mid-South College. Games start at 6 p.m. Admission is one new toy. 

In it's regularly scheduled meeting Monday evening, the Summerville City Council approved an additional $10,000 for it's Streetscape Project; discussed the city tax digest; and approved 20 malt beverage licenses for 2013.

The additional funds for Streetscape are for a concept report prepared by Ladd Environmental that is required for the project, according to City Manager Russell Thompson.

The malt beverage licenses are for all grocery and convenience stores, and restaurants that sell malt beverages in the city. 

City commissioners also approved the holiday schedule. City employees will have December 24th and 25th off work, as well as January 1. City hall and city offices will be closed for the holidays on those days.
