A Summerville woman was arrested at Walmart Wednesday charged with shoplifting. According to the report from the Chattooga County Sheriff's office, 29 year old Kristen White of a Ramsey Road, Summerville address was arrested after shoplifting three items from the store. She was charged with theft by shoplifting.
Someone is trying to get people's personal information by pretending to be a probation officer.
According to a report by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office, a Peach Street man received a text message asking for his personal information. He received a second message supposedly from a Chattooga County probation officer.
The message stated," this is your probation officer, I need you to text me your cell phone number, account password and four-digit security code to check your messages since you got off probation. The message further stated that if there is anything bad found, your phone will be shut off for 72 hours.
You are reminded that officials do not give out personal information or ask for it via text messages.

A new member was appointed last night to the Chattooga County School Board of Education.
Larry Weesner was appointed to serve until Dec. 31 in seat four, formerly held by Ron Williams. His appointment was unanimous.
Weesner, a Democrat, will take over January 1, 2013 to fill Williams’ unexpired term. He is unopposed in this year’s election for that seat.
He is expected to be sworn into office next Thursday night.
Thursday night the Summerville City Council chose a three-member appeals board that will decide whether an employee was wrongfully terminated last week.
A 12-year customer service representative with the city is challenging Summerville City Manager Russell Thompson's decision to terminate her. The hearing is set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.
Mayor Harry Harvey will serve on the board, as will Councilman Zach Martin and Amber Browning, a personnel director at a local manufacturing company.
The city isn't giving out any details as to why the woman was fired. All Thompson would say is that after a review of her performance it was found that some sections of the city's personnel policy were violated.
A government survey shows more teens are now smoking pot than cigarettes.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday that 23% of high school students said they recently smoked marijuana, while 18% said they had puffed cigarettes. The survey asked teens about a variety of risky behaviors.
For decades, the number of teens who smoke has been on the decline. Marijuana use has fluctuated, and recently rose. At times, pot and cigarette smoking were about the same level, but last year marked the first time marijuana use was clearly greater.
An earlier survey by the University of Michigan also found that pot smoking was higher. A Michigan expert said teens today apparently see marijuana as less dangerous than cigarettes.
Georgia 35 state colleges are getting $72.5 million in new funds for the upcoming school year aimed at addressing enrollment growth and increasing the number of college graduates in the state.
reports schools took a 2 percent cut from the funding they received in fiscal year 2012.
Georgia State University will receive $8 million, the University of Georgia will receive $7.8 million and Georgia Tech will get $7 million.
North Georgia College and State University will receive about $1.3 million in funding, which the school plans to use to fund 12 full-time faculty positions and 10 staff positions. Gainesville State College will get about $660,000, which the school will use to fund 17 new faculty and staff positions and a supplemental instruction program.
Floyd County police are asking for the public's help in locating an 18-year-old girl who has been missing since the weekend.
Griffen Boyd was last seen May 26 at her Woodsong Road home in Rome. Her bicycle was found the next day at her grandmother's house in Cartersville along with a note stating she was going to St. Augustine, according to Floyd County police detective Ojilvia Lom.
Lom said police do not suspect foul play but are concerned because the teen takes medication daily.She is described as being 5 feet 3 inches tall, 130 pounds, with a short haircut.
She was wearing a ball cap with a white skull and gray denim pants, Lom said. The teen is believed to have her purse and phone with her, but it appears the phone has been disconnected. She may walk with a limp, Lom said.

An Armuchee man died as a result of a crash in Bartow County.
According to Bartow officials:
The crash occurred at about 3:25 p.m. Thursday as a westbound Ford Mustang was stopped to make a left turn from Ga. 140 into a private drive near Oak Grove.
A blue Ford International spreader truck being driven by Douglas Leon Mathis, 65, from Armuchee, was also westbound and came up on the Mustang too fast to stop without striking it in the rear.
The truck veered to the left and entered the eastbound lane in front of a Mac dump truck. The Mack truck hit the International in the passenger side.
Mathis was fatally injured in the collision.
The driver of the dump truck, Larry James Dixon, 50, from Ranger, was taken to Cartersville Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
