Mr. Marcellus Worsham Yancey, Sr., age 74 of Summerville, passed away Friday, December 03, 2010 in Rome, Georgia.
Mr. Yancey was born in Summerville, Georgia on January 16, 1936, son of the late A.R. “Dick” Yancey and Pearl Ragland Yancey. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Army. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Yancey was a construction superintendent. His job took him to many states and many foreign countries, but he always considered Summerville his home. Mr. Yancey served as the Jr. Vice Commander for the Georgia Chapter of the American Legion, was a member of the American Legion Post 129, the Chattooga Masonic Lodge # 704 F&AM, where he currently served as Treasurer, the Chattooga Shrine Club, and the Yaarab Shrine Temple. In addition to his parents, Mr. Yancey was preceded in death by a brother , Malcolm Yancey.
Mr. Yancey is survived by his wife, Ann Martin Yancey of Summerville; son, Marcellus “Marcey” Yancey, Jr. and his wife Zelma of Cloudland; daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha Y. and Ray Atkins of Rome, Charise and Tim McNeely of Dothan, AL, Tammy and Michael Dempsey of Cave Spring, Dawn and Ken Hefner, Cooksville, MO, and Kelly and Jay Wilson of Summerville; 15 Grandchildren; 2 Great grandchildren; Sisters and Brothers-in-law, Peggy and Tommy Dooley and Dale and Allen Cochran; Niece, Teresa Cobia; Nephew, Ken Yancey; Special Cousin, Kay Chumbler; Honorary Family: Members of the American Legion, Masonic and Shrine Brethren and the Members of the Liar’s Table and Wait Staff at Jim’s Family Restaurant.
Masonic Rites will be given Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 4:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home. Graveside and Interment services will be held Monday, December 6, 2010 at 12:00 Noon at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton Georgia with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be Sons-in-law and Grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Members of the American Legion and the Masonic and Shrine Brethren.
Mr. Yancey will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 2 until 4 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that memorial contributions be made to the Veteran’s Memorial Park, 818 Memorial Drive, Summerville, GA 30747.
The family of Mr. Yancey would like to thank Dr. Jerry McCormick and his staff as well as the Staff of Heyman Hospice Care for their care and support during this time.
Mrs. Bertie Barrett, age 96, of Trion, GA died Friday, December 3, 2010 at Floyd Medical Center. Mrs. Barrett was born Sept.7, 1914 in Blue Ridge, GA, the daughter of the late Will Davenport and Sarah Elizabeth Davenport. She was a homemaker and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Barrett was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Tom Barrett, grandson, Kelly Eugene Colbert, great-grandsons, Daniel Keith, Jeremiah Robinson, Jackson Thomas. Survivors include sons, William "Gene" Barrett, Thomas "Johnny" Barrett, Calvin "Randy" Barrett, daughters, Wanda Sue Hames, Patricia Mae Keith, Sara Irene Belcher, brother, Calvin Davenport, 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be will be at 2: 00 p.m. Sunday Dec. 5, 2010 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jamie Colbert and Rev. Robert Patterson officiating. Interment will be in the Ridgeway Cemetery. Active pallbearers, Ryan Choate, Tony Barrett, Timmy Barrett, Bryan Keith, Willis Hames, Tommy Hames, Kelly Keith, Steven Stone, Matthew Mann. Honorary Pallbearers will be all friends and neighbors. Mrs. Barrett will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday Dec. 4, 2010.
Mr. Rubin Wayne Goodson, age 62, of Trion, GA died Thursday, December 2, 2010 at his residence. Mr. Goodson was born August 10, 1948 in Chattooga County, GA, the son of the late Charlie B. Goodson and Lucy Mae Anderson Goodson. He was formerly employed with Mt. Vernon Mills. Other than his parents, Mr. Goodson was preceded in death by sisters, Charlotte Ann Woods, Jeanette Green, Rebecca Craig; and a brother, Charles McGhee Goodson.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Dale Goodson; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Patrick Wesson, Trion, GA, Marsha and Michael Smart, Cloudland, GA, and Virginia and Emmett McWhorter, Summerville, GA; sisters, Georgia Cochran, Trion, GA, Kathy Hardin and Mattie Williams, Summerville, GA; brother, Herman Lee Goodson, Trion, GA; grandchildren, Ryan Wesson, Jessica Lee Ann McWhorter, and Lindsay Smart.
Graveside and interment services will be held 3: 00 p.m. Saturday Dec. 4, 2010 at Concord Cemetery with Rev. Gary Howell officiating, Active pallbearers, Freddy Maynard, William Ragland, Billy Hathorn, Fred Hardin, David Young, Cecil Laney, Jeff Ford. Mr. Goodson will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Saturday Dec. 4, 2010.
MRS. VENNIE LOUISE BREWSTER, age 89, of Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday (December 2, 2010) night in a LaFayette, Georgia nursing home. A Tennessee native She was born to the late Thomas and Arvie Green Williams on October 8, 1921. Mrs. Brewster was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband the late Marion Dexter (Deck) Brewster.
Survivors include daughter-Jan Westbrook of Jonesboro, GA.; son-Gary Brewster of Punta Gorda, FL.; sister-Sue Peppers of LaFayette; 8 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Sunday (December 5th) at 2 P.M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Cordell officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery. The Family will receive friends Saturday from 5 until 8 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
