Mr. Lawrence (J.R.) Robinson

Mr. Lawrence Franklin "J B" Robinson, age 79, of Menlo, GA, died Monday, September 28, 2009 at the Summit Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Robinson was born March 22, 1930 in Walker County, GA, the son of the late Lawrence Robinson and Willie Mae Baker Robinson. He was retired from Roper Corporation. Mr. Robinson was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6688 and the American Legion Post 129. Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Broyles Robinson; and a brother, Arlie Robinson.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis F. and Aileen Robinson, step-daughter and husband, Marie and Ricky Cavin; brothers, Leonard Robinson, Charlie Robinson, Ralph Robinson, and Perry (Wendy) Robinson; sisters, Betty Henderson, Bonnie Lou Jenkins, Eller Mae Franklin; sister-in-law, Sarah Robinson; grandchild; Joseph D. Robinson, 5 Step-Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Steve Spears and Rev. Billy Wright officiating. Pallbearers will be Bill Tutton, Billy Brown, Herb Skelton, Sewell Cash, Carl Maorrison, and Marcellus Yancey.

Mr. Robinson will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Tuesday, September 29, 2009.

Public Works Director Lamar Canada with roads now open

Chattooga County Public Works Director Lamar Canada told AM 1180 this afternoon that Riverhaven Drive and Atlanta Avenue at Cloudland are now open and that Gilreath Mill Road is still closed and he ask that residents do not use the bridge walking or in automobiles, since the DOT has not inspected it..

Free clothing for flood victims

The clothes closet located at the 1st Presbyterian Church on West Washington Street in Summerville is offering free clothing to flood victims…Friday and Saturday from 10 to 5pm…Normal hours will resume next week Monday and Tuesday from 10 till 2 and Wednesday and Thursday from 12 to 4PM…They are also accepting clothing….

Bobby Wayne McDaniel

Mr. Bobby Wayne McDaniel, age 55, of Menlo, GA died Wednesday, September 23, 2009 athis residence. Mr. McDaniel was born May 6, 1954 in Trion, GA the son of Earl McDaniel and the late WinnieLee Crouch McDaniel. He was employed at Northwest Regional Hospital. Mr. McDaniel wasa member of the Pennville Christian Missionary Alliance Church. He was a member of thePlumbers and Pipe Fitters Union Local #766, the Alpine Masonic Lodge # 211, and he was a Boy Scout Leader of the Menlo Troop. Mr. McDaniel is survived by his wife, Sheryl Wilson McDaniel; his children, Amber Sheryl McDaniel,Menlo, GA, Shanna Bobbie and husband, James Ammons, Eatonton, GA; his father,Earl James McDaniel, Summerville, GA; his sisters, Earlene Elliott, Rome, GA and Sue Murphy,Jamestown, AL; his brothers, Davis McDaniel, Pennville, GA, Tim McDaniel, Pennville, GA, andTony McDaniel Rockmart, GA. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Phillip E. Dalton, Sr

MR. PHILLIP EDWARD DALTON, SR., age 87 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, September 19, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness.

Surviving are former wife, Nancy Dalton of Summerville; daughters, Christina Dalton Moreno of Ashboro, N.C. and Sharon Robertson of Cape Canaveral, FL.; sons, Phillip Edward Dalton, Jr. of Brunswick, GA., Alexander Dalton of Wala Wala, WA., and Gregory Dalton of Marietta; sister, Barbara Taylor of Keene, TX; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild.

The Chattooga County schools’ students will have another day off Wednesday; however, all 12 month employees must report to work.

Two churches open to feed flood victims and rescue workers

The Pennville Alliance Church will be open from 5 until 7pm feeding flood victims and the rescue workers.  The church is located just off of Hwy 27 right before the Greenhill Memory Gardens.

Also, the Summerville First Baptist Church is now open serving food to the flood victims.  The church is located on Georgia Ave., across from city hall.

Mrs. Bonnie M. Lowrance

Mrs. Bonnie Mae Lowrance, age 81, of Trion, GA, passed away Thursday September 17, 2009 in Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Lowrance was born April 10, 1928, in Chattooga County, GA, the daughter of the late Herman and Nancy Stella Gentry Craig. She was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Lowrance retired from Riegel Textile Mills. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Alvan Lowrance. Survivors include her children, Martha Camp, Trion, GA, Richard Lowrance, LaFayette, GA, Gary Lowrance, Trion, GA, sisters, Martha Sims, Blairsville, GA, Louise Brown, and Sarah Hilburn, both of LaFayette, GA, 7 Grandchildren, and 12 Great Grandchildren. Mrs. Betty J. Crane Stowe

Mrs. Betty Jean Crane Stowe, age 73 of Ringgold, GA passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at her residence. Mrs. Stowe was born in Jamestown, AL on June 28, 1936, daughter of the late Arthur Crane and Flora Hestor Crane. She was a member of the New Hope Pentecostal Church and was a homemaker.

 Mrs. Stowe was preceded in death by her husband, Frank “Bud” Stowe. Mrs. Stowe is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Debbie Stowe of Calhoun; daughters and sons-in-law. Rita and Larry Pickard and Lecia and Red Bethune of LaFayette, Donna and Bob Bellomy of Graysville, and Tina Smolik of Ringgold; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

 Funeral Services for Mrs. Stowe will be held Friday, September 18, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Morrison officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Trion Cemetery.

 Pallbearers will be Robert Bellomy, Michael Bethune, Randall Stowe, Chris Stowe, Jeremy Pickard and Joshua Pickard.
