Mrs. Sallie Beth Dawson, age 81, of Summerville, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Hutcheson Medical Center.

Mrs. Dawson was born in Summerville, Georgia on October 5, 1927, daughter of the late Marvin Grisby and Georgia Heffner Grigsby and was a homemaker.Mrs. Dawson is survived by her husband, Bobby “Gene” Dawson; step-daughter, Elizabeth Allmon of Summerville; and 3 grandchildren, Cody Campbell, William Campbell and Preston Allmon

Graveside and interment services for Mrs. Dawson will be held Tuesday, July 14 at 2pm in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Joel A. Smith officiating.

Mrs. Geneva Aaron Carson, age 88 of Atlanta, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Southern Regional Medical Center.

 Mrs. Carson was born in DeKalb County, Alabama on September 10, 1920, daughter of the late Buford Aaron and Nora Hasten Aaron. She was a member of the Dry Valley Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Earlie Hubbard Carson, son Donnie Ray Carson; brother, Vernon Aaron; sisters, Imogene Little, Nell Blevins, Mary Ruth Dolberry and Ann Henderson. 

Mrs. Carson is survived by Sons and Daughters-in-law, Mackie and Carol Carson, Billy Joe and Debbie Carson; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Gerry Mills; sister, Christine Carver; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren. 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Carson will be held Friday, July 10, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Weaver and Rev. Arnold Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Trion Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Carson, Christopher Carson, Deron Darnell, Bill Campbell, Pete Dolberry, Kenny Dolberry and Danny Dolberry.

Mr. Jackie Marshall Phillips, age 65 of Gaylesville, AL., passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Emory University Hospital. 

Mr. Phillips was born in Doraville, Georgia on March 9, 1944, son of the late Albert Marshall Phillips and Rena Hester Phillips. He was a member of the Chesterfield Baptist Church and prior to retirement, was employed with Sears as a Fork Lift Operator.

 Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his wife, Terri Logue Phillips. Mr. Phillips is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Stacy and Greg Franklin of Lawrenceville, GA and Joy Phillips of Toccoa, GA; Special Friend, Darlene Hudson, Gaylesville; brothers, Glen Phillips of Cumming, GA and Henry Philips of Lakeland, FL; sister, Peggy Niblett of Cumming, GA; and 2 grandchildren, Dez Franklin and Danielle Hightower.

 Funeral Services for Mr. Phillips will be held Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Ledford officiating. Mr. William H. (Bill) Wilson, age 88, of Bryant Road, Summerville, GA, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday. June 17, 2009.  A native of Walker County Georgia, he was born to the late William Carl and Myrtle Mae Purtain Wilson on January 2, 1921.  Mr. Wilson was a member of the Summerville First United Methodist Church, a career veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II and Korea.  He was a retired civil service in the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  He was a member of Chattooga Lodge #704 F & AM and the NAFR, Rome Chapter.  He was preceded in death by siblings, the late Fannie Mae Lacy and the late Curtis Wilson and the late John Henry Wilson.Surviving are his wife, Odessa B. Lacy Wilson; sons & daughters-in-law, W. A. & Claudia Ann Wilson of Acworth and Thomas Harold & Jean McClain Wilson of Roswell; grandchildren, Nicole Kathleen Wilson, Thomas Andrew Wilson and Jennifer Leigh Wilson; brother, James Wilson of Panama City Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be Saturday, June 20, at 11am from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Mrs. Rebecca Hankins, age 85, of 1011 Ponders Lane, Dalton, GA, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009, in Hamilton Medical Center.  Mrs. Hankins was born July 14, 1923, in Valdosta, GA.  She was a homemaker and a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church.Mrs. Hankins was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Hankins; sons, Ricky Hankins and Malloy Hankins; brothers, Joe Wilson, John Wilson and Sylvester Wilson.Survivors are her sons and daughters-in-laws, Charles and Mary Ellen Hankins of Varnell, GA, and Carlton and Joyce Hankins of Ft. Pierce, FL; her daughters, Frances Smith of Rocky Face, GA and Annie Lee Mathis of Dalton, GA; several grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 19, 2009, at 11am from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Morgan officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.Mrs. Hankins will lie-in-state Friday, June 19, 2009, at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 9am to 11am.Pall-bearers will be Eric Hankins, Charles Hankins, Jr., Terry Mathis, David Mathis,

Mrs. Thelma Yvonne Hammitt, age 69, of Summerville, passed away Friday, June 12, 2009 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Mrs. Hammitt was born in Chattooga County, GA on March 12, 1940, daughter of the late James Willie Walker and Gladys Elizabeth Ward Walker. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and prior to retirement, was employed with Best Manufacturing.

Mrs. Hammitt was preceded in death by her husband, James Ernest “Hambones” Hammitt. Mrs. Hammitt is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and David Ransom of Summerville; son, Stan Hammitt of Summerville; Sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy Walker and Tommy Beech and Mildred “Sissy” and Cotton McGraw of Summerville; her “Babies”, Benji and Happy Hammitt; grandchildren, Kevin and LeAnn Hammitt and Emily Hammitt; great grandchild, Lily Hammitt; Very Special Friend, Emma Lou Pullen; Friend, Linda Smith; and a number of nieces and nephews. 

Graveside and Interment Services for Mrs. Hammitt will be held Monday, June 15, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Bryant officiating. Pallbearers will be Chris McGraw, Carter Woodall, Jeff Woodall, David Jones, Lann Cordle, and Jacob Whitaker.
