The Georgia General Assembly began its 156th Legislative Session on Monday January 11th, 2021. First on the agenda was the swearing in of all members of the Georgia House of Representatives, both old and new, by Superior Court Chief Judge Brenda Weaver. Governor Brian Kemp gave the annual State of the State address last Thursday which included a variety of topics including how Georgia has weathered the COVID-19 outbreak. The Assembly will begin to review Gov. Kemps budget recommendations next week, which includes no furlough or layoffs for state employees, as well as no new budget cuts for State Agencies or Departments. Another 10 Northwest Georgia residents have now died from COVID-19, 2 of those deaths were Chattooga County residents.
According to the Wednesday report from the Georgia Department of Public Health, Chattooga County is now at 49 deaths up by two from the day before.
Bartow County is at 141 deaths up by one from Tuesday’s report.
Gordon County also reported another death for a total of 72.
56 Polk County residents have now died from the virus, up by one from Tuesday.
And , Floyd County is now at 129 deaths.
As far as new cases go, Floyd County reported 64 from Tuesday to Wednesday, Bartow County had 76, Gordon County saw 38, Polk County had 25 and Chattooga County reported 15 new cases.
Statewide, we are at 695,400 total cases, up by 5,722 from the previous day.
There were 149 more confirmed deaths for a total of 11,411 since late February
