Mr. Walton David Hughes, Updated Obit (Mason)

Mr. Walton David Hughes, age 74 of Summerville, GA, formerly of Cedar Bluff, AL, passed away Friday April 28, 2017 at Floyd Medical Center.
Mr. Hughes was born April 5, 1943 in Gaylesville, AL to the late Hoarce and Virgie Bannister Hughes. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in Vietnam.  He attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was a retired automotive dealer.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his sisters; Louise Tillman and Elizabeth Baty, brothers; Charles Hughes, Wilburn Hughes, Winfred Hughes, and Johnny Hughes; and a great-great-grandson; Easton Barrett Morris.
Survivors include his wife; Judy Hughes, son; Joey Hughes and his fiance’, Freda Rhodes; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Darrell Wheat, brothers and sisters-in-law; Bobby and Betty Sue Hughes, H.R. Jr. and Mildred Hughes; and grandchildren, Ashley Little and Abbigail Wheat.
Funeral Services for Mr. Hughes will be held at 3:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) Sunday, April 30, 2017, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Russell and Rev. Gary Wells officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Lydell Hughes, Marty Rogers, David Mitchell, Blake Hughes, Lamar Hughes, and Rusty Dooley. Honorary pallbearers will be all personal friends.
Mr. Hughes will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) until the hour of service on Sunday.

The Lyerly and Menlo Pre-K Have Openings Available

The Lyerly and Menlo Pre-K classes currently have slots available for the 2017-2018 school year. To qualify children should be four-years old by September 1 and reside within the schools attendance zones. The Georgia Pre-K Program is free and there are no income guidelines. Mrs. Lula Mann Hughes, Obit (Mason)

Mrs. Lula Mann Hughes, age 92, of Lyerly, GA, died Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at the Oakview Health and Rehabilitation Center.
 
Mrs. Hughes was born January 6, 1925, in LaFayette, GA, daughter of the late James Arthur and Argie Leona Davis Mann.  She was a member of the West Berryton Faith Temple Holiness Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Mohawk Industries.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James R. “Jack” Hughes; 2 brothers; 4 sisters; and a great-grandson, Josh Tidmore.
 
Mrs. Hughes is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Robert and Marietta Hughes, James Rayburn and Shirley Hughes; brother, Rev. John Mann; grandchildren, Debra Butler, Donna and Jerry Mostiller, Scott Hughes, Tony and Sissy Dowdy, Timmy and Danni Dowdy, Robin and Timmy Prince, Billie Bethune, Matt Hughes; 18 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
 
Funeral services for Mrs. Hughes will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 28, 2017, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Stevens and Rev. Gary “Bucky” Brown officiating.  Interment will follow in the Lyerly Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be William Hughes, M. D. Hughes, Jimmy Hughes, Kenneth Mann, Billy John Lewis, and Andy Stivers.  Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, the staff of Oakview Health and Rehabilitation Center, and the Women’s Sunday School Class of the West Berryton Faith Temple Holiness Church.
 
Mrs. Hughes will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Friday.

Mr. Leonard Briten Hawkins, Updated Obit (Coffman)

Mr. Leonard Briten Hawkins, age 66 of Lafayette, GA passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at his residence.

 

Mr. Hawkins was born in Lafayette, GA on May 12, 1950, son of the late Oscar Daniel Hawkins and Jannie Lou Adams Broadrick.  He worked as a mechanic and could repair just about anything.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his wife, Debra Hawkins; sister, Louise Robinson and a brother, Henry Hawkins. 

 

Mr. Hawkins is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Hollis Siffles, Jannie and Keith Burrage and Debra and Butch Cordle; sisters and brother-in-law, Irene Cagle, Sarah Robinson and Brenda and Tommy Young, Sr.; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Mr. Hawkins will be held Friday, April 28, 2017 at 4:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Shores officiating.  Interment will follow in the Hawkins Family Cemetery with Rev. Gary Wells officiating.

 

Pallbearers will be Brandon Siffles, Ryan Siffles, Jay C. Young, Tommy Young, Jr., Stacy Robinson and Richard Robinson.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Nephews and Eric Talley and Tommy Young, Sr.

Mrs. Martha Louise Shaw, Obit (M)

Mrs. Martha Louise Shaw, age 78, of Cloudland, GA died Friday, April 21, 2017
at Floyd Medical Center.
 
Mrs. Shaw was born July 25, 1938 in Blanche, Al, the daughter of the late Virgil
Larkin Roberts and Ida Belle Brunson Roberts.  She was formerly an employee
of Best Manufacturing. Mrs. Shaw attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
 
Survivors include her children, Terry Shaw, Michael Shaw, and Tina Corbitt;
sisters, Mittie Knight and Glenda Battles; grandchildren, Jason Shaw, Carrie
Shaw, Cathryn Shaw, and Stephanie Corbitt; and 3 Great-grandchildren.
 
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m.,  Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Green officiating. Burial will follow in Weiss Lake Memorial Garden. Pallbearers will be Randy Corbitt, Aaron Battles, Leonard Gifford, Kerry Roberts, Tarzan Brown, and Muscles Johnson.
