Two Chattooga County School students were arrested over the weekend in connection with threats made against Trion High School. Despite the fact that the students have been arrested, Trion City Schools will be on a “soft lock down” today, according to school administration.

Trion Engine 12-R responded to a residential structure fire in the area of Chestnut Street in Trion, along with Trion Police, Summerville Fire, Hays Fire and Artium Health Floyd EMS. The homeowner was trying to extinguish the fire, but the smoke became too much, so she had to exit out the front door. Once outside, she yelled for a neighbor who was in his yard. Without hesitation, the neighbor quickly grabbed the table in the living room and removed it from the home. Then, grabbing a water hose, he began putting water on the fire. Upon the arrival of Engine 12-R, smoke filled the entire home and could be seen from Simmons Street. Firefighters quickly extinguished the hot spots and set up ventilation to clear the home. The Trion Fire Department credited the neighbor William Campbell for his heroic efforts.
The GBI says that a former Georgia teacher is facing criminal charges after a GBI investigation. On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, GBI agents arrested and charged Chasity Cheyenne Knight, age 25, of Uvalda, GA, with one count of Improper Sexual Contact by Employee, Agent, or Foster Parent; Consent Not a Defense.
Two people were killed and a one-year-old was seriously injured after a head-on collision on Turner McCall Boulevard in front of Applebee’s restaurant in Rome early Saturday morning.
A thirty-eight-year-old Chattooga County woman with an active warrant was arrested on August 31st after the sheriff’s office received a call from Chattooga 911 about an active domestic incident taking place on Railroad Circle in Pennville. When deputies arrived on the scene, they determined that the domestic incident was at a camper in which a couple were staying. Deputies determined that the woman involved had an active warrant for her arrest and ordered her out of the camper trailer. When she stepped out and deputies informed her that they were arresting her on the outstanding warrant, she began to resist arrest. After a brief struggle, deputies cuffed the woman and transported her to the Chattooga County Jail. April Michelle Shaw was charged with two counts of obstruction of law enforcement in additional to her arrest on the outstanding warrant.
The Chattooga County Extension Office announced late last week that Chattooga County native Kyle Krueger is joining the office as the new Agricultural and Natural Resources Educator. Krueger attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton where he received a bachelors degree. Most recently, Krueger was employed with area beef producer Crestview Angus in Floyd County. Krueger loves the outdoors and agriculture and is looking forward to the new position with the local extension office. Agriculture and Natural Resources Agents connect current research-based information from the University of Georgia to the local community. Agricultural and Natural Resources Agents teach topics related to agriculture and natural resources and provide educational programs through individual and group instruction.
The City of Summerville will hold their monthly meeting for September coming up this evening at 5 PM at Summerville City Hall on Georgia Avenue. On the agenda for tonight’s meeting, the council is expected to approve a motion to allow Summerville Main Street to list a pickup truck as surplus and advertise its sale online. Also, the council is expected to pass a measure to allow local veterans organizations use of Dowdy Park on November 9th for a Veterans Day ceremony. The annual Sum Nelly in downtown Summerville is now less than one month away and Summerville Parks and Recreation says that vendor spots for the arts and crafts festival are filling up fast. Over the weekend, they announced that already, 75 vendors have submitted their applications. Sum Nelly will be held on Saturday, October 5th from 9 AM until 3 PM at Dowdy Park. Any interested vendors should contact the Summerville Recreation Department or stop by the rec department on Highway 100 for a vendor application.
