Lyerly Down Home Day September 28

The Town of Lyerly has announced the date for this year’s Down Home Day.  Lyerly Down Home Day is a free event open to anyone in the surrounding area.  Attendees will be able to shop with arts and crafts vendors from all over the Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama area and there will be plenty of food vendors as well.  There will be bingo, pony rides, hayrides and an apple pie eating contest.  The event will take place on the last Saturday of the month from 10 AM – 2 PM at Angus McLeod Park in Lyerly.  For more information, contact Lyerly Town Hall at 706-859-2611.

Blue Ridge Man Dies After Crashing ATV In Chattooga County

Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader says that a man from Blue Ridge died after crashing his ATV at a hunting club in Chattooga County.  The sheriff issued the following press release on Tuesday afternoon: On September 2, 2024 around 0100 am, deputies and emergency personnel were dispatched to Haywood Valley road (Silver Creek hunting Club) regarding a missing male. A short time later, Alton Jerry Jordan, age 82 of Blue Ridge, GA was located    in a wooded area on a steep hill. Preliminary investigation suggests that Mr. Jordan was trying to turn to navigate down a steep hill when his ATV rolled over multiple times landing on top of him. Mr. Jordan had succumbed to his injuries prior to being located.

Trion Elementary Title One Meeting Next Week

Trion Elementary School will have a Title I meeting next Monday, September 9th from 4 PM – 4:30 PM in the Cafeteria at the school. Title I meetings are annual meetings for parents of children who participate in Title I programs. The purpose of these meetings is to inform parents about the Title I program and their right to be involved in their child’s education.  Following the meeting, parents are invited to an Open House with visits to classrooms from 4:30 PM until 6 PM.

Woman Rescued By Helicopter At Chattahoochee National Forest On Sunday

A sixty-six-year-old woman was rescued by helicopter after she became injured while at Panther Creek Falls in Habersham County on Sunday, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources – Law Enforcement Division.

Property Tax Sale Today

Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton will be conducting a property tax sale today on the courthouse steps.  Several properties are up for sale due to unpaid property taxes.  It is a “buyer beware sale” and all the properties will be sold “as is”.  Property owners have been notified that the delinquent taxes are due and have been given the opportunity to pay the taxes.  Several properties have come off the list since it was originally released last month.  Anyone that wins a bid on property at today’s sale will have two hours to make payment on the property.  Today’s sale will start at 10 AM.  If any auctioned property is not paid for within the two-hour time limit, it will be re-auctioned at 2 PM this afternoon.
