On Tuesday of this week, Summerville Police responded to a domestic incident at a Hawkins Drive address.  Police say that an seventy-two-year-old woman, identified as Peggy Perry,  was accused of attacking a forty-three-year-old woman, identified as Audrey Wooten,  with a cane after the younger woman refused to mop the floor.  Police said that the older woman told the younger woman she would give her a “pain pill and a hydrocodone” if she would mop the floor.  Police said that Perry got angry after she gave the pills to Wooten and then she didn’t mop the floors and Perry then attacked Wooten woman with her cane. Perry maintained that she was just defending herself with the cane.  Both Perry and Wooten were arrested and taken to the Chattooga County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct.

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson announced yesterday, that Georgia’s July unemployment rate was 3.4 percent, up one-tenth from a revised 3.3 percent in June. The unemployment rate was nine-tenths lower than the national unemployment rate.

Police in LaFayette are looking for a hit and run driver that struck a pedestrian back in June.  Yesterday, LaFayette Police released pictures of a dark-colored Ford F-150 pickup truck that appears to be driven by a male driver.  Police say that the hit and run happened on June 8th around 7 PM on East Villanow Street.  The driver of the pickup truck struck a pedestrian and never stopped after the accident, instead driving off and leaving the victim.  Police ask that if you know the person in the pictures or have any information about the incident, that you contact Detective Robby Tate with the LaFayette Police Department at 706-639-1540.

The countdown is on for the 2024 Chattooga County Agricultural Fair.  One week from today, the gates will open for the fair which was re-established 10 years-ago in 2014.  The fair council has been working all year in preparation for this year’s event. Multiple vendors will begin setting up at the fair grounds, located between the Chattooga County Ag Building and Summerville Middle School, throughout the week next week.   Thursday of next week is not only opening day, it is also “student night” at the fair, sponsored by The City of Summerville.  All students will get free gate admission.  There are plenty of things to see and do with a free kid’s zone that will feature a petting zoo, rock climbing wall and mechanical bull.  Students in the Chattooga County School System will have early release for the fair on Thursday, August 22nd and again on Friday August 23rd. Livestock entries for the fair are due by tomorrow, Friday, August 16th.

Yesterday,  the GBI arrested and charged the Mayor of the City of Thomson, Benjamin Cary Cranford, age 52, of Thomson, Georgia, with Furnishing Prohibited Items to Inmates and Criminal Attempt to Commit a Felony.
