Homeowners across the Peach State are feeling the pinch of high power bills this summer. Georgia Power has hiked rates twice and that combined with hot and humid weather has kept the power meters spinning and power bills that seem out of reach for some of the utility company’s customers.
Former Georgia Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan is not in the good graces of his political party. He is a high profile Georgia Republican who has endorsed the Democratic nominee for President. In an open letter posted Friday to social media, Georgia Republican Party Chairman Josh McKoon issued a series of credible threats against Duncan’s future in the Georgia Republican Party in the wake of his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris, which saw him essentially double down on his previous backing of President Biden. McKoon threatens to ostracize Duncan and demanded that he stop referring to himself as a Republican. For his part, Duncan said, “The right thing is to beat Donald Trump….He’s reckless on a good day and dangerous on a bad day.”

Driving in the U.S. is getting increasingly dangerous due to road rage. Between 2014 and 2023, road rage shootings increased by more than 400%, from 92 to 481, according to an analysis conducted by The Trace. In some states, confrontational driving tends to be less common, putting drivers at lower risk when they get behind the wheel. Forbes Advisor surveyed over 10,000 drivers across the country and compared all fifty states. According to the numbers, Georgia ranks near the top in polite drivers. Georgia has the second lowest percentage of drivers who have been yelled at, insulted, or threatened by another driver (18.5%) and the fifth lowest percentage of drivers who have been blocked from merging or changing lanes (26%). Chattooga County Fair Booklets are now available for the fair that is coming up August 22nd-25th. The booklet gives information about events and the entertainment lineup along with the livestock show schedule. Those planning to enter items in the blue ribbon department will want to pick up a booklet for all the details about blue ribbon receiving times. The fair booklets are available at the Chattooga County Extension Office, located at 40 Middle School Drive, off Highway 100 in Summerville.

The Rise to Success program at Atrium Health Floyd is not the reason Bray Mosley is succeeding, but it is most definitely helping her achieve her goals. She is one of 35 Rise to Success students at Atrium Health Floyd and was the first from Chattooga County. She graduated from Chattooga High School in 2023 with a goal of becoming a nurse.
