The Lookout Mountain Superior Court has announced that they are looking to appoint a full-time juvenile court judge and a part-time juvenile court judge.  Applications are being accepted now through September 16th.  The Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit covers Catoosa, Dade, Walker and Chattooga Counties.  The positions will be filled in time for the judges to take the bench on October 1st of this year.  Those interested in applying for the positions should submit applications to Chief Judge Kristina Cook Graham at PO Box 179, Summerville, Georgia.

The Chattooga County Board of Education and Chattooga County School Supt. Michelle Helie say that they are implementing a new program to curb absenteeism and tardiness.  Monday School would be a way for students to make up lost instruction time.  The Chattooga County School System is on a four-day school week, so Monday School would allow students that have missed too many days of school or have a chronic tardiness issue, to make up work.  The policy is aimed primarily for students at Chattooga High School.  Supt. Helie says that if students have to come into school on a Monday when their peers are out of class, it might motivate them to be more consistent with school attendance. Monday School will be held on designated Mondays and students can either come in from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM or from 8 AM until Noon.

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr will be in Rome tomorrow to host the latest meeting of his Statewide Opioid Task Force.  The task force will be meeting  at Georgia Northwestern Technical College in Rome and will discuss the “war on fentanyl” and his office’s continued efforts to combat the opioid crisis in Georgia. Attendees will also receive updates from public, private, and non-profit partners who are working to address this issue in the region and throughout the state. Attorney General Chris Carr will be joined by local leaders, law enforcement officials, state agency representatives, and recovery and addiction specialists.  The meeting takes place from 9:30 AM until 11 AM.

The annual Twisted ankle Trail Races will be held at Sloppy Floyd State Park on September 7, 2024. Three race distances are offered with a 5K (3.1 miles), a 10 Mile race, and a Half Marathon (13.1 miles) for every level of experience. The body of sixty-four-year-old Alfred Trapp, Jr. was found in Armuchee Creek this past Wednesday.  Reports at the time quoted the Floyd County Coroner’s office as saying that Trapp was a “homeless man”, but the family of Trapp told WZQZ News on Friday that Trapp was not homeless.  The family said the information that came from Floyd County authorities was ” not accurate and has caused significant distress to those who knew and loved (Alfred Trapp)”.  The family went on to say, “This matter is deeply personal and the incorrect portrayal of Alfred’s life is devastating to his family and friends”.  Trapp’s body was found in Armuchee Creek after a passerby noticed a human body in the water and notified authorities.  Trapp’s personal affects were found on the creek bank.  The Floyd County Coroner’s office says that Trapp had been in the water sometime before the discovery of the body.  No foul play is suspected according to Floyd County authorities.
