Everyone knows that the Holiday season can be hectic, but probably few realize just how hectic it can be on United States Postal workers. Summerville’s Postmaster is asking for the public’s patience as postal workers work seven-days-a-week from now until Christmas to get all those packages delivered.

An armed robbery was reported on Highway 48 just outside of Summerville on Saturday night. According to reports, two black males, dressed in black and wearing sunglasses, entered the Highway 48 Food Mart, located at 1360 Highway 48. One of the suspects was armed and the other was carrying a backpack. It is not known at this time how much was stolen during the robbery. WZQZ News is working to get more information on the robbery. According to reports, there was no description of the suspect’s vehicle given. We will have more information as it becomes available from local law enforcement. Rome Police are asking for the anyone with information about a shooting Saturday night to call their investigations team, and in the meantime have charged a twenty-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of an unnamed victim.
A twenty-eight-year-old Chattooga County man was arrested in Chatsworth this past week on marijuana distribution charges.
Governor Brian P. Kemp, joined by Lt. Governor-Elect Burt Jones, Speaker Jan Jones, and Speaker-Nominee Jon Burns, on Thursday announced he has extended the temporary suspension of the state motor fuel and locomotive fuel tax and the supply chain state of emergency until January 10, 2023. The state leaders also reiterated their support for a next phase of inflation relief through a second tax refund, equal in size to this year’s, and an extension of the homestead tax exemption that will be introduced in the coming legislative session. The Rome News Tribune reports that the FBI is taking over the investigation of reports of anti-semitic flyers being distributed in neighborhoods in Rome, specifically West Rome and Garden Lakes.
The Summerville City Council will be meeting tomorrow evening at 5 PM for their regular monthly meeting for December. There are several items on the agenda for tomorrow’s meeting, including a decision on approving a contract for the interim city manager’s position. Council members had previously stated that they would be taking applications for the interim city manager’s position through December 8th, but did an about-face and hired a new interim city manager instead of waiting on resumes from potential applicants. Now, council members will be asked to approve a contract for the new interim city manager that will go into effect on December 19th. There are no plans for virtual attendance for tomorrow evening’s meeting. A question and answer time with the mayor and city council members will be held at 4:30 PM before the meeting begins.
