Floyd County Reports Third Vehicle Fatality In Eight Days

The past week or so has been a deadly one on Floyd County roadways.  Monday, a nineteen-year-old man was killed off Calhoun Road, marking the third traffic fatality in eight days.  One of those fatalities was a twenty-five-year-old Summerville man.

Inmate Being Held For Chattooga County Facing New Charges

A Floyd County Jail inmate, who is being held for Chattooga County, is accused of attacking a fellow-inmate and threatening to kill the other inmate.  According to Floyd County Jail reports, Anthony Dennis Walker, age 21 of Winterville, Georgia is facing additional charges after he allegedly repeatedly beat another person with his fist and feet while stating that he was going to kill him. Authorities went on to say that the victim suffered visible injuries to his face from the attack. Walker is charged with aggravated assault battery and terroristic threats and acts. He had been housed at the jail since Thursday as a hold for Chattooga County.

Menlo Teen Charged With Underage Possession

A Menlo teenager was charged with underage possession of alcohol after a traffic stop in Summerville on Monday.  According to a report from the Summerville Police Department, seventeen-year-old Sean Alan Sammons of a Highway 48, Menlo address was stopped in a 2006 Jeep Wrangler by police near Greenhill Memorial Gardens.  Officers said that Sammons “tested positive for alcohol three times the legal limit”.

Final Chattooga County Election Returns For 2022 U.S. Senate Runoff Race

Chattooga County voters voted overwhelmingly for Republican Herschel Walker in the 2022 U.S. Senate Runoff Election.  With the final numbers in, Walker received 5,500 votes to incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock’s 1,343 votes.

Shots Fired At Rome Business On Monday

On Monday morning at 10:20 AM, the Rome Police Department was requested by 911 dispatch call to investigate a shooting that occurred at a business at 550 Riverside Parkway. It was reported that the employee pulled out a weapon and fired several rounds in the direction of other employees and then ran from the facility. No one was injured in the discharge of the weapon. The offender was not present at the scene and the incident is still under investigation. This did result in a lockdown of the nearby schools for a short period of time until it was determined the shooter was no longer in the area. The names of those involved are not being released at this point as the investigation is in its early stages.
