Summerville Man Charged With DUI

A sixty-five-year-old Summerville man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, open container and  marijuana possession over the weekend.  Willie Patrick White of a Ramey Street address was arrested on Saturday on the DUI and open container charges and booked into the Chattooga County Jail.  He was issued a citation for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Election Day Today

For the final time this election cycle, Georgia residents are being asked to return to the polls to vote in the runoff race between incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock and Republican challenger Herschel Walker.  Neither of the two candidates reached the threshold required by Georgia law to win their race in November.

Georgia Gas Prices Continue To Decline

Georgia gas prices continue to decline at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $2.96 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 8 cents less than a week ago, 17 cents less than a month ago, and 22 cents less than this time last year. It now costs $44.40 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Drivers are now paying almost $3.00 less to fill-up at the pump compared to last month.

Chamber December Luncheon

The Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce has scheduled their December meeting for next Tuesday, December 13th.  The luncheon will be held at noon at Sweet P’s at the Tavern in Trion.  The guest speakers for the chamber meeting will be Mark Pickle and Mike Martin from Mountain Education Charter High School.  The event will also highlight the graduates of this year’s Leadership Chattooga.  Space is limited and reservations are required.  To RSVP for the meeting you can click HERE

Fire Protection Rates Going Up 22% In Summerville

Summerville residents are going to be paying more for fire protection in 2023.  The move by the Summerville City Council to increase rates by 22% was approved at last week’s mid-year budget meeting.

Chattooga Young Farmer Meeting December 15th

The Chattooga Young Farmers will hold their December meeting coming up on Thursday, December 15th at the Chattooga County Agricultural Building on Middle School Drive in Summerville.  The meeting will feature a presentation by Chattooga Young Farmer member Jayme Dawson on DOT regulations and how they affect local farmers and agricultural producers.  A pork chop meal will be served.  Those planning to attend the meeting are asked to RSVP with Chattooga County Young Farmer Director Lauren Jarrett by emailing ljarrett@chattooga.k12.ga.us
