Online Accounts For Chattooga Car Crash Victims

A large crowd gathered at Chattooga High School on Monday evening to remember the victims of a horrific car crash that happened in the early morning hours of Sunday on the Lyerly Highway.  The crash claimed the lives of three Chattooga High School students.

Town Of Lyerly Seeks Bids For Roadwork

The Town of Lyerly is seeking bids for roadwork.  The town is advertising for a contractor to remove and dispose of existing pavement and culverts on Cemetery Road.  The bids being accepted will also include the installation of two 60-inch culverts and repaving of the road.  Bids are being accepted at Lyerly Town Hall until November 4th at 4:15 PM.  Anyone with questions may contact Lyerly Town Hall at 706-895-2611.

No New COVID Cases Reported In Chattooga County

No new COVID-19 cases were reported last week in Chattooga County.  New numbers will be released today.  The Georgia Department of Public Health moved from a daily reporting of cases to a weekly report in the spring of this year.  In all, there have been 7,431 COVID-19 cases in Chattooga County since the beginning of the pandemic and 145 deaths have been attributed to COVID-19 in Chattooga County.  Statewide there were 2,614 new cases last week with 68 deaths, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.

Inflation Impacting Georgia DOT Projects

The Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) says inflation is driving up the costs of road projects.  Many of planned projects are coming in more than 40% of projected costs.  As a result, the Georgia DOT has rejected some high bids and is waiting on other projects, hoping that prices will come back down.

Trion Rec Basketball Signups Continue

Signups for basketball at the Trion Recreation Department got underway last week and will continue through November 12th.  The Trion Rec Department is offering basketball for children ages 7-8, 9-10 & 11-12.  The age control date is September 1, 2022.  There is a $25 registration fee for those who live outside the Trion Town Limits and free to those who live inside the town limits.  The Trion Rec Department must have a copy of the child’s birth certificate on file.  If you have questions, you may contact the Trion Recreation Department at 706-734-2011.
