A Rome woman has been sentenced to three years probation and fined $2,296 upon pleading guilty to possession of methamphetamine in Chattooga County. Leah K. Bramlett was sentenced recently in Chattooga County Superior Court. In addition to her sentence and fine, Bramlett has been banned from Chattooga County and the entire Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit which includes Chattooga, Walker, Dade and Catoosa Counties.
Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader is hopeful that inmates will be returning to the Chattooga County Jail this week. Inmates were moved to jails in Dade and Floyd Counties after the Labor Day Weekend Flood that dumped over 14 inches of rain on downtown Summerville. The aging jail in Summerville sustained major damage from the flooding, especially the flooring. Not only were the buckling floor tiles a problem – it turns out that the tiles were asbestos, which meant that removal was more costly. Sheriff Schrader said that Dade County took the majority of the inmates from the jail in September, and even sent deputies over to help transport the inmates. The sheriff says that he believes the jail will be able to accommodate inmates sometime this week.

Mr. James Edward Leo Bruce, age 90, of LaFayette, GA, died Friday, October 28, 2022, at Erlanger Medical Center.
Mr. Bruce was born March 30, 1932, in Trion, GA, son of the late William Author Ross Bruce and Beatrice Ruby Brown Bruce. He was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, worked as a mechanic. Mr. Bruce was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Sergeant and Tank Commander in the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bruce was preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence Bruce and Lewis Bruce.
Survivors include his wife, Awanda Nell Sprayberry Bruce; children, Marsha (Jeep) Stanley, Kathy (Phil) Paris, Tammy (Steve) Davis; a sister, Imogene Broyles; 6 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Bruce will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Ridgeway Baptist Church with Rev. Damon Perry officiating. Interment will follow in Littlejohn Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Cody Stanley, Shane Stanley, Bryant Stanley, David Bruce, Brian Sipsy, and Kaden Trejo. Honorary pallbearers will be all nephews.
Mr. Bruce will be in state at Ridgeway Baptist Church and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Tuesday.

Mr. Jimmy Dale “Slow Poke” Fowler, age 54, of Summerville, GA, died Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Erlanger Medical Center.
Mr. Fowler was born November 25, 1967, in Rome, GA, son of the late Alex and Carolyn Mitchell Fowler. He was employed with Roper and was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Sergeant. Mr. Fowler was a 1986 graduate of Chattooga High School and enjoyed fishing. He was also a musician and loved to sing and play guitar and the keyboard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Roxie Jane King.
Survivors include his wife, Melanie Howard; sons, Micah Fowler, D. J. (Autumn) Fowler, Tyrone (Brittany) Adams, and Jamey (Danielle) Arnold; daughters, Courtney Long, Sherri (Ray) Jones, Latoya (Jason) Parrett, and Ashley Adams; a brother, Lamar Fowler; sisters, Beverly Sumner, Selena (Tim) Wester, and Deanna Evett; 18 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Fowler will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, October 31, 2022, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Holman officiating. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery with military honors. Active pallbearers will be Lamar Fowler, J. T. Wester, Daniel Teague, Ray Blount, Jack Rich, Johnathan Bolton, and Douglas Koceja. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees in the Fab Department at Roper.
Mr. Fowler will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Monday.

The Chattooga Indians chalked up a victory over the Coosa Eagles in Friday night football action. The Indians had a 7-3 advantage over Coosa through the first quarter. The only time the Eagles led the scoring was during the second quarter. By intermission the Indians were up 20-10 over the Eagles and headed into the final quarter with a 26-12 lead. The final score was the Chattooga Indians over the Coosa Eagles 33-12. The Chattooga Indians ended their season with the victory over Coosa.
Summerville Police released a report this week about a domestic incident that happened earlier this month. According to the report, police were called by a witness who said that a man and woman were fighting on Martin Street.
The DeKalb County, Alabama Investigations Division has recently been investigating a case regarding apparent child pornography. An investigator, who is also assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that an individual residing in DeKalb County had been involved in sharing and downloading child pornography via a social media platform.
