The Georgia FFA Association’s success at the 95th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, was highlighted by 15 national champions. Among Georgia’s national titles were the American Star in Agribusiness and American Star in Agriscience, five national proficiency award winners, three national Agriscience Fair award winners, and the nation’s Outstanding Middle School chapter.  That honor went to Franklin County Middle School FFA.  Summerville Middle School FFA was named one of thirty-six Georgia FFA chapters to get a 3-star rating, the highest rating offered by the National FFA.  You can read more about Georgia’s FFA chapter’s success in this release from Georgia Farm Bureau:

The public is invited to Summerville City Hall on Monday evening at 5 PM to honor Dr. Bridgette Hopkins with Summerville Veterinary Clinic.  Dr. Hopkins has served Summerville and Chattooga County for over 35 years and has over 10,000 patients.  The public is encouraged to come and show appreciation for Dr. Hopkins on Monday, November 14 at 5 PM at Summerville City Hall.

Voters in Trion overwhelmingly approved a liquor by the drink referendum on Tuesday of this week.  But Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas says it will take some time before any restaurants inside the town limits will be able to serve alcohol.  According to the mayor, the town attorney will need to amend the towns ordinances and then those changes will have to come before and be approved by the Trion Town Council before any licenses can be issued.  On Tuesday, 119 voters voted in favor of the measure, with just 42 people opposed.  There was one ballot that was left blank, according to Trion Town officials.

A thirty-two-year-old Rome man was arrested by the Rome Police Department on Wednesday for battery charges. According to Floyd County Jail Records, Brandon Lewis McGlotha of a 15^th street address allegedly provoked and then attacked a victim at a residence on Spring Creek Road. A child was present during the attack to witness the incident. McGlotha is being charged with third-degree cruelty to children, and simple battery (family violence).
