Voters in the City of Menlo won’t see any names for city council seats on the ballot for the November election.  That’s because only one candidate qualified for each seat.  According to a notice posted by the City of Menlo and dated Tuesday of this week says, “The special election for November 6, 2022 has been canceled. The following candidates qualified for office and are unopposed: Seat #3 John VanHorn, Seat #4 Patti Settoon, Seat #5 Sara Pless.  The above unopposed candidates shall be deemed to have voted for him / herself. “

Floyd County Public Works is actively closing Big Texas Valley Road at Cabin Creek Bridge due to flood damage to the bridge.

Big Texas Valley Road will be closed to thru traffic from Huffaker Road to Friday Road until further notice.

The official detour will flow from Friday Road to Highway 100 to Alabama Highway (See detour route map above).

The Summerville City Council met on Monday evening of this week and approved a new position at city hall.  The council voted to approve the salary for a new IT person at a starting salary of $47,500 annually.  The council approved the salary and position, but opted to continue to advertise the open position for potential candidates.  The council also voted to approve almost $7,000 for payment for flood recovery cleanup by Superior Relief Services for work at the city’s maintenance building.

Funeral services are set for this Saturday for a Georgia State Trooper Cadet who passed away after training exercises, according to the Georgia State Patrol.  Thirty-six-year-old Patrick Dupree was a former police officer in Cave Spring in Floyd County.
