Work continues on Habitat for Humanity – Coosa Valley’s 58th and 59th home builds. Volunteers are sought to assist on Saturdays with the builds in Floyd County, which are slated for completion just in time for Christmas, according to Betsy Allgood, Executive Director.
The Rome International Film Festival (RIFF) is proud to announce that its headquarters for 2022 will be Rome Playa Azul Media (PAM) Studios. The studio recently sponsored a Latinx Film Category in the submission categories for the festival and will be hosting and promoting various Latin-focused events and screenings that were chosen from the category during the Nov. 10 – Nov. 13 event. Their sponsorship will reflect the support of a multi-year partnership with the studio and festival.
A Northwest Georgia man will be serving time in prison for dumping drums of toxic waste. Fifty-six-year-old Amin Ali of Dalton was charged in Federal court for dumping the drums with toxic waste in a chicken house in Catoosa County. Ali pleaded guilty and has been sentenced to two months in Federal prison with one year of supervised release. The clean up of the toxic waste was over $500,000. Former University of Georgia football coach and director of athletics Vince Dooley died Friday afternoon at the age of 90, UGA says.
A Walker County man is wanted for shooting his wife Thursday, according to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office. The shooting happened on the 14000 block of E. Hwy 136 Lafayette, Georgia.

A Summerville woman reported the theft of a cell phone on Tuesday of this week. According to a report from the Summerville Police Department, Brittany Jones of a Sidney Street address called police after she noticed the phone was missing from her kitchen table. Ms. Jones told the officer that she had searched her residence and her vehicle for the missing Iphone 13, but was unable to find it. She told police that she believed someone had stolen the phone and identified a possible male suspect that had been at her residence earlier in the day. The incident was turned over to an investigator.
It was Senior Night for the Trion Bulldogs in Thursday night football action last night at Sam R. McCain Stadium. The Trion Bulldogs defeated the Armuchee Indians 41-0. The Bulldogs will be taking on Darlington next week. Tonight, the Chattooga Indians will be facing off against Coosa in a game you can hear on WZQZ and you can watch the game live on our Facebook Page.
