Summerville Police responded to a call about a damaged vehicle on Northwest Congress Street on Saturday.  According to a report released on Tuesday, the complainant was a woman who was at a residence on Northwest Congress Street.  Police say that Samantha Seeger of Trion told them that another woman had thrown a rock and knocked a fan out of a window at the residence.  Seeger then went outside and found that someone had spray painted orange paint on the rear of her 2021 Chevrolet SUV.   Seeger identified a possible suspect to police saying that the two were having issues “because of a relationship.”

The Summerville City Council met on Monday evening of this week for their regular council meeting for the month of September.  As expected, the recent Labor Day Weekend Flood and the resulting water issues with the water treatment plant were a topic of discussion.

A Summerville woman came to the Summerville Police Department on Friday of last week to report harassment.  The woman said that a man living in Rome was sending her unwanted messages.  The complainant said that she had changed her number, but the man had found ways to contact her on her new number.  She said he often used other people’s phones to send her messages.  The woman said that she had spoken with police in Rome, but that they had told her she needed to file a report where she lived.  Summerville Police filed a report about the harassment.

District Attorney Chris Arnt released a statement this week about a Northwest Georgia man who plead guilty to incest and child molestation before Lookout Mountain Circuit Judge Ralph Van Pelt, Jr. last month and has since been sentenced to prison.

A jury continues their deliberations in the murder trial of a Chattooga County woman.  Renee Lanham is charged with the murder of her husband.  The fifty-three-year-old hair dresser is standing trial for felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit murder and criminal solicitation.  The murder trial began in August and was first delayed because Lanham’s defense attorney had COVID-19.  The case was then delayed further after the Labor Day Weekend Flood caused damage in downtown Summerville.  Lookout Mountain Circuit Judge Don Thompson then moved the trial to Walker County because of flooding issues.  A jury has been deliberating since late last week.  Lanham’s defense attorney maintains that she is innocent.

The Horticulture program at Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) will hold a Fall Mum Sale outside of Building L located across from GNTC’s Floyd County Campus in Rome Monday, Sept. 19, through Thursday, Sept. 22.
