Armuchee Man Arrested For Possession Of Meth

A fifty-nine-year-old Armuchee man was arrested late last week and charged with possession of methamphetamine during a traffic stop.  Floyd County Police report that David Brooks Dempsey was pulled over for having no insurance after an officer ran his tag.  Police smelled marijuana and recovered a white crystalline substance, believed to be meth, and a glass smoking device.  Dempsey was arrested for no insurance and possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug-related objects and booked into the Floyd County Jail.

 

DA Statement On Culberson Child Molestation Conviction

On Wednesday, August 31, 2022, Jonathan Michael Culberson, 33 years old, was quickly found guilty by a Chattooga County jury of four counts of Child Molestation and one count of Sexual Battery of a Child under 16 Years of Age.

Georgia Colleges Discontinue 215 Degrees

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported yesterday that Georgia’s public universities will offer fewer degrees in majors such as French, classical culture and certain specialized teaching fields after the Board of Regents terminated 215 programs at 18 schools.

Group’s Land Use Meeting Will Go On Without The Commissioner

Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry held a public meeting  in August and faced some tough questions about the land use ordinance that he enacted in March of this year.  Some members of the public were not satisfied with the answers that were given at that meeting and had asked the commissioner for  a public meeting to clarify the commissioner’s position and to voice concerns about the 83-page document that makes up the land use ordinance.  But Commissioner Elsberry says that he had prior commitments and will not be attending tonight’s meeting.

Chattooga Schools Back In Session Today

Chattooga County School students are headed back to class today after a week off due to issues related to the Labor Day Weekend flood.  Chattooga County School Supt. Jared Hosmer made the decision last week to call off school after water service was disrupted at almost all county schools.

Gas Prices Continue To Decline In Georgia

Georgia gas prices continue to decline at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $3.25 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 8 cents less than a week ago, 30 cents less than a month ago, and 28 cents more than this time last year.

Teddy Gentry Arrested In Cherokee County

Teddy Gentry, member of the country music group Alabama, was arrested in Cherokee County, Alabama on Monday morning.  According to docket records from the Cherokee County Alabama Sheriff’s Department, Gentry was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of marijuana – both misdemeanors.  There were no further details immediately available about Gentry’s arrest.  He was charged at 10:38 AM and bonded out of the Cherokee County Detention Center at 11:06 AM (Central Time).  The seventy-year-old Gentry lives in Fort Payne in DeKalb County, Alabama.
