Officials with Atrium Health Floyd have scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony for the new freestanding emergency room that is to be built in Chattooga County. The new facility will be built near Wal-Mart.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources says that acorns won’t be plentiful in Northwest Georgia this year, and that will affect wildlife. A recent report shows that the mast crop – the fruit of forest trees and shrubs, such as acorns and other nuts – is low this year.
Two female jail inmates were recently found with methamphetamine inside the Floyd County Jail.

Some Summerville City water customers had water flowing back into their homes on Friday, and for some there was still no water on Saturday. But city officials are reminding residents they still need to boil their water before drinking or cooking with it.

A train accident in Lindale in neighboring Floyd County was reported at 4:15 AM on Saturday morning. The accident and resulting collision hampered traffic from Lindale to Riverbend Center in Rome. Rome police say that two coal cars came off the track near Park Avenue. One of the engines broke loose and continued towards Rome, colliding with a southbound train off Riverbend. A diesel fuel leak was quickly contained and there were no other environmental or hazmat concerns. There were no injuries reported.
