The Summerville City Council voted unanimously this week to approve a $5,000 donation to the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair that is coming up next month.
Chattooga County Jail inmates have been busy this week picking up hundreds of pounds of trash off Chattooga County’s roadways. Deputy Ken Anderson told WZQZ News on Wednesday of this week, inmates picked up 480 pounds of trash mostly on Giles Road and Ridgeway Road. Inmates also picked up 360 pounds of trash this week on Starling Mill Road, Farmersville Road, New Hope South Road and Johnson Road. Anderson said that doesn’t include the aluminum cans that were picked up this week. Those cans are cashed in for money that is used to help feed the inmates who work the litter patrols in the county. Earlier this year in April, when inmates picked up over 2,400 pounds of trash in a week’s time, Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader said, ” Litter is awful. PLEASE don’t throw out your trash into the roadsides of OUR county.”
It may sound like something out of the future, but the technology is here that allows delivery services to take advantage of delivery robots to homes and businesses. The Georgia General Assembly is addressing the issue with a new law that will govern delivery robots and allow local governments to pass regulations for their use.

A Probate Judge in Northwest Georgia has resigned after reaching an agreement with the Judicial Qualifications Committee regarding allegations leveled against him.
A confrontation in Rome led to the arrest of two people after a woman was assaulted near East 16th Street. Floyd County Police say that thirty-three-year-old Shamere Nicole Neal hit the female victim in the lower back with a hammer. She is then accused of kicking the victim’s car door. During the assault, an accomplice of Neal’s, identified as thirty-one-year-old Calvin Leonard Jackson, put his hands around the victim’s neck, causing her to lose her breath. Neal and Jackson were charged with aggravated assault and Neal received the additional charge of criminal damage to property for kicking the victim’s car. Both were arrested and booked into the Floyd County Jail.

Summerville Police were called to a 4th Street residence on Friday of last week after an expensive vacuum cleaner was reported stolen.
A new national survey by AAA shows that a quarter of consumers plan to go electric for their next vehicle purchase (a fully electric, not hybrid vehicle). The most common factor for those interested in buying an electric vehicle (77%) is a strong desire to save on fuel costs. However, AAA notes that there are still those who are hesitant to make the switch, due to lingering concerns relating to range, purchase price and availability of public charging options.
