Girlfriend Squabble Lands Woman In Jail

A woman called the law on her girlfriend, and wound up going to jail herself.  According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, forty-five-year-old Virginia Ann Curry, who lives on the Lyerly Highway, called for the sheriff’s department on Sunday claiming her girlfriend had assaulted her.

Two With Active Warrants Taken In After Traffic Stop In Mountain View

Two people were taken into custody after a traffic stop due to active warrants.  According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy saw Joseph Stowe getting into a vehicle at the Mountain View Store and knew that Stowe had an active warrant.  The deputy followed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.  The driver was identified as Tonie Vicktoria Cochran and told the deputy that her license was suspended.  After a check, the deputy informed the driver that not only was her license suspended, she also had an active warrant.  The deputy allowed the driver to call for someone to come pick up some juvenile’s in the vehicle and arrested both Stowe and Cochran on the outstanding warrants and took them to the Chattooga County Jail.

Human Remains Found In Calhoun

Calhoun police said human remains were found near downtown Monday. Police said the remains were found in a small wooded area just off Piedmont Street. Officers were searching the area as part of an investigation into a missing person. “We have spoken with relatives of a person that has been missing for several months, and we believe we have located and are working with the medical examiner to positively identify the remains”, said Calhoun Police Chief Tony Pyle. Police did not release the name of the person who is missing or say when the victim vanished. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is working with Calhoun police to process the scene.

Rep. Lumsden Weekly Legislative Report

State Rep. Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee) has released his weekly legislative report for the fourth week of the 2023 session of the Georgia General Assembly.  Lumsden talks about passing the Amended Fiscal Year 2023 budget and outline several of Governor Kemp’s budget priorities for this legislative session.  One of those involves a $50,000 grant for every school in the state to improve school security.  Also, Rep. Lumsden said the amended budget includes $2.4 million to improve security at the state’s domestic violence shelters. Other highlights in the House’s Amended Fiscal Year 2023 budget include $1 billion for the governor’s new Homeowner Tax Relief Grant program, which would provide one-time property tax relief for qualifying homesteads for the tax year beginning January 1, 2023.  You can read Rep.
