Changes are coming to laws affecting Georgians who burn outdoor yard debris. As of July 1, 2021, landowners will no longer be required to notify the Georgia Forestry Commission of their intention to burn hand-piled vegetative matter. However, the legal responsibilities of those burning outdoor yard debris will be strengthened. Also, the new rules do NOT change the annual burn ban that takes place in the spring and summer for Chattooga County and fifty-three other North Georgia counties.

In Georgia, 1 in 7 people live with food insecurity – not knowing where their next meal will come from. There’s Hope for the Hungry is a Christian ministry, founded in prayer in 2003 and committed to evangelizing and feeding people who are in need. The group is active in Chattooga County and will be distributing food this week in Summerville.
The Town of Lyerly has scheduled an Independence Day celebration for the end of June. The Fourth of July falls on a Sunday this year, so the town is celebrating our nation’s independence a week early.
