The Chattooga County School system has released its weekly COVID Report. Last week there were three cases at Chattooga High School, one case at Leroy Massey Elementary School, once case at Summerville Middle School and one case at the administrative offices.

Georgia’s Attorney General says that despite a global health pandemic and economic crisis, criminals are still trying to find ways to take advantage of Georgia residents, and now they are doing it with COVID-19 vaccine scams.
The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that Georgia’s unemployment rate dropped 0.3 percentage points to reach 4.5 percent in March while the state saw a significant increase in the number of jobs.
Alabama Highway 117 going down Lookout Mountain from Mentone to Valley Head, Alabama has been closed for over two weeks due to instability of the roadway on the side of the mountain. But Mentone residents and Alabama law enforcement officials say that some tractor-trailers are ignoring the road closure signs and trying to make their way down Tutwiler Gap, which has caused several large trucks to get stuck.
The Rome News Tribune reports that five more men have been indicted on charges stemming from what prosecutors described as the ritual beheading of a ram during a white supremacist paramilitary training camp in October 2019.
Animal Advocates of Chattooga County and the Summerville Veterinary Clinic have announced a rabies clinic coming up next month. The event will be open to all pet owners in Chattooga County and you can bring your pets for $10 vaccinations. The rabies clinic will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 8 AM until 5 PM at Chattooga High School. The cost is $10 per animal. Remember, vaccinating your pets keeps them, and everyone safe – and it it’s your responsibility to make sure your pets have received their vaccinations.
A Trion man was arrested last week in neighboring Gordon County after officers found him inebriated in public. According to arrest records from the Gordon County Jail, twenty-nine-year-old Gregory Laselle Shropshire II of Chandler Road in Trion was arrested by Calhoun City Police and charged with obstruction of law enforcement officials and public drunkenness. Shropshire was booked into the Gordon County Jail, according to jail reports.
Summerville Main Street will host the 5th Annual Spring Market today in Dowdy Park. Admission to the Spring Market is free and Market hours will be from 10 AM this morning until 3 PM this afternoon. This year’s market is also featuring a special Pet Appreciation Day addition on East Washington Street.
The Fashion Show will be held in the Open Air Venue and is free to the public. Registration to participate in the show will be a $5 minimum donation to the Chattooga County Animal Shelter at the time of registration. Pets attending must be escorted on a leash or lead. Pet escorts will be responsible for their pet’s discharge.
Compassionate Paws, the local affiliate of Nationwide Pet Partners, Inc. will participate by offering a “Read With Me” program, allowing youth to read to dogs in fenced areas set up on East Washington Street between the hours of 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Lectures by Compassionate Paws are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. in Dowdy Park and immediately following the Pet Fashion Show inside the Open Air Venue. The public is encouraged to enjoy this portion of Spring Market with their pets and children.
Event goers may want to bring a lawn chair to enjoy a variety of entertainment throughout the day.
