Search Continues For Summerville Girl

The search continues for a Summerville girl, age 13, who went missing this weekend from her home.  According to Summerville Police, Jaycea Renae Marmet Edgeworth is about 150 to 180 lbs and has hazel eyes with black, shoulder-length hair.  She has a birthmark on her left elbow and pierced eyebrows, nose and bellybutton.

Cutting Torches Stolen From Cloudland Property

The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of cutting torches from a building on Highway 157 at Cloudland.  According to a report from the sheriff’s department, the complainant told a responding deputy that someone took a set of Victor-brand cutting torches that were valued at $375.  The complainant identified a suspect to the responding deputy, saying that the suspect was seen on the property and that the suspect was seen around the building where the torches were hanging on the wall.  The incident was turned over to an investigator.

Commissioner Candidates To Address Local Safe Water Advocacy Group

For the first time since the August 11th runoff election, the two candidates for Chattooga County Commissioner will be together for a public forum.  The meeting will be virtual and is being hosted by Chattooga Citizens for Safe Water.  Event organizers are organizing the Zoom meeting and WZQZ will be simulcasting the meeting this evening at 7 PM on 99.1 FM and AM 1180.   The two candidates will have 5-10 minutes for an opening statement and will then address questions submitted by the group’s members.  You can find out more about Chattooga Citizens for Safe Water and how to virtually attend the Zoom meeting here.

Counterfeit Money At Circle K

Summerville Police were called to the Circle K convenience store at 10935 Commerce Street concerning a case of counterfeit money.  According to a report from the police department, Circle K employees told a responding officer that a couple came into the store and the female asked about a job application that she had turned in.  The male, purchased two items valued together at $2.12.  The man then handed the clerk a $10 bill and received $7.68 in change.  After the couple left, the clerk determined that the $10 was fake.  The incident has been turned over to an investigator.

Summerville City Council Called Meeting Monday

The City of Summerville City Council will have a special called meeting on Monday evening at 5 PM.  The council will be discussing several issues, including a new date for the fireworks display and possible litigation.  The city is providing a link for those who would like to virtually attend the meeting.  You can find that information here.

Georgia Power has elected Jill Campbell to the company’s board of directors, effective August 19, 2020. Campbell is the executive vice president and chief people and operations officer for Cox Enterprises.

Chattooga Citizens For Safe Water Hosting Commissioner Candidates

A group of concerned Chattooga County residents have formed a group called, “Chattooga Citizens for Safe Water” in response to the water issues that have plagued the City of Summerville for several months, and the Chattooga County Water District for the last week and a half.  The group has asked both candidates for Chattooga County Commissioner to address the group’s Zoom meeting on Monday evening.
