After ten days under a “boil water order”, customers of the Chattooga County Water District said Saturday afternoon that the water is now safe to use.
A thirty-eight-year-old LaFayette woman is facing DUI and other charges after wrecking her vehicle off Highway 27 in Chattooga County, last week. Christy Corene Hogue was arrested after attempting to walk away from the crash scene. She failed a field sobriety test and was charged with DUI. Pills and a baggie of hydrocodone were found on her person later. Her vehicle left the Highway in Trion and struck several objects, including a gas meter. In addition to DUI, Hogue was charged with obstruction, financial card theft and fraud, crossing the guard line with drugs and tampering with evidence.
A good-sized crowd turned out at noon on Saturday for a tribute to Chattooga County Probate Judge Jon Payne. The event was organized by Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton. Tax Commissioner Hampton told those assembled that while the funeral service was private, she wanted to have a short service in honor of Chattooga County’s first Probate Judge, who held the position for almost 46 years.

The Chattooga County Water District issued the following statement on Saturday afternoon: The boil water advisory from the Chattooga County Water District has been lifted. Latest test samples are negative for the previous contamination. Thank you for your patience over the past 10 days. The areas that were under advisory may continue using water as normal.
