The streaming music service Pandora has honored country music super-group Alabama with a “Pandora Billionaire” plaque after the online music service certified over 2 BILLION Alabama music stream plays.
Karen Craven, lead teacher and site manager for Adult Education in Floyd County, was named Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s (GNTC) Adult Education Teacher of the Year for 2023.
The City of Summerville will hold a called meeting on Monday evening at Summerville City Hall. The purpose of the meeting is to have the final reading on the Fiscal 2022-2023 mid-year budget. Also, the council will be discussing plans for the Summerville Public Works building. The meeting will get underway at 5:30 PM and the public is invited to attend.

Thirty-three high schools from across northwest Georgia competed in the SkillsUSA Region 1 Qualifying Competition hosted by Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) on Friday, Dec. 9. More than 250 competitors represented their schools hoping to qualify for SkillsUSA Georgia being held in Atlanta. Chattooga High School students placed in six different categories.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has filed a complaint and obtained a preliminary injunction against American Consumer Rights Organization, aka “ACRO Services,” and its related companies. This Atlanta-based organization offered credit card debt relief services. The Better Business Bureau of Metro Atlanta (BBB) reports on known government actions involving business marketplace conduct.
The Walker County African American Historical and Alumni Association will open its museum and cultural center in LaFayette, this Saturday. It’s located in the Wardlaw Building at 309 North Main.
Georgia Power has backed down from the amount of rate increase that they were originally seeking approval for from the Georgia Public Service Commission. The new proposal from Georgia Power is about 40% less than the original request, but would still raise around $1.8 Billion for the company. Georgia Power contends that they need the rate increase to pay for aging infrastructure. The new proposal from Georgia Power would lessen the monthly impact on customers. The average customer would see around $3.60 per month added to their bill instead of the $14.90 under the original proposal. Georgia Power plans to submit a second rate increase proposal in February to cover the cost of higher fuel prices.
