You may have seen them around Chattooga County, signs that say “Vote No On New Sales Tax”. The signs are referencing the Education Special Local Option Sales Tax that voters will be voting on coming up in the June 9th Primary. But some people are concerned that the signs are misleading for voters.
The COVID-19 Pandemic has wreaked havoc on Georgia’s unemployment numbers. After the state having record low unemployment for many consecutive months, the state continues to see the number of first-time unemployment claims rise in the face of businesses struggling to catch up after the state-wide shutdown due to the pandemic. Chattooga County is no exception.

A Lindale man has been charged in a wreck that claimed the lives of two people back on April 21.

Another swimmer drowned at Little River Canyon National Preserve on Lookout Mountain on Sunday and a woman was washed over the falls on Memorial Day.
On the afternoon of Sunday, May 24, 2020, around 2:15 PM, a 23-year-old male from out-of-state was swimming in the river at Little Falls near a group of friends. The individual was seen going below the water and he never resurfaced. First responders were immediately dispatched and on-scene within minutes and a search and rescue operation was initiated.
A Summerville woman told a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputy last week that someone had stolen her clothes that she had left in the dryer at a local laundromat. The complainant said that she had been washing her clothes at the “Mr. Clean Coin Laundry” located at 11175 Highway 27 in Summerville. She said after her clothes washed, she put them in the dryer and left the laundromat. When she returned, someone had stolen all of her clothes. The woman said that the clothes were valued at $200.
State Senator Jeff Mullis (R-Chickamauga) is facing a Primary challenge from two Republicans who would like to unseat the District 53 senator that represents Walker, Dade, Catoosa and the largest portion of Chattooga County.

An Oak Hill Drive, Trion woman says that a 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun was stolen from her vehicle last week.
