Four National Forests Reopen Trailheads

The USDA Forest Service will open a series of trailheads and access points to the Appalachian National Scenic Trail on May 22. The Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests in Georgia, Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests in North Carolina, Cherokee National Forest in Tennessee and George Washington and Jefferson National Forests in Virginia will participate in the coordinated reopening.

Second Allotment of Remdesivir Headed to Hospitals for Treatment of COVID-19

The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) is distributing a second allotment of the drug remdesivir received from the federal government. Twenty-nine hospitals in Georgia will receive remdesivir, enough to treat more than 300 patients, depending on the duration of an individual’s illness and treatment needs.

Judge Payne Recognized By Georgia Senate

One of the most recognizable faces at the courthouse in Chattooga County is that of Probate Judge Jon Payne.  Payne was first elected as Chattooga County’s Probate Judge in 1974 after he took over from Lan Cordle who was filling in after the former probate judge passed away.  Judge Payne was twenty-five-years-old when he first took office.  At the age of 71, Judge Payne has announced his retirement.

Free COVID-19 testing is available to all Georgians who request it, whether they have symptoms or not. The Chattooga County Health Department, 60 Farrar Drive, Summerville, is offering free drive-up COVID-19 testing from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
