Winter officially arrives this afternoon at 4:48 Eastern Time, and by all accounts, it looks like we will certainly be feeling like winter as we head into Christmas weekend. The winter solstice marks the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) is reminding the public of its efforts year-round to prepare for the winter weather season. Winter officially arrives tomorrow, Wednesday, December 21st.
A thirty-year-old New Jersey man was arrested at a location on Government Plaza on Friday by the Floyd County Police Department and is being charged with armed robbery. According to Floyd County Jail Records, Terrence Lee Shellhas of a California Avenue Williamstown address allegedly robbed a victim at gunpoint on Georgia Avenue in Cave Spring on December 15th around 1:30 AM. Police stated that another suspect helped Shellhas steal the victim’s property.
Tellus Museum will host a Lunch and Learn on Wednesday, December 21st to give participants information on making a rock collection. The event will be hosted by Tellus’ Geology Program Manager Hannah Eisla and begins at 12:15 PM.
Georgia gas prices continue to decline at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $2.78 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 10 cents less than a week ago, 36 cents less than a month ago, and 34 cents less than this time last year. It now costs $41.70 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Drivers are now paying $5.00 less to fill-up at the pump compared to last month.
With overnight temperatures predicted to be in the single digits as we head into Christmas weekend, now is the time to prepare. One thing you don’t want to forget is your vehicle.

The Lyerly Town Council will hold their December monthly meeting coming up this evening at 7 PM, and will also hold a public hearing on the Fiscal Year 2023 budget. This is the first of two meetings scheduled for public review. The next meeting will be held on January 10, 2023. That meeting will also be held at 7 PM at the Lyerly Town Hall, located at t 6086 Highway 114 in Lyerly. A copy of the proposed budget is available for public review at the Lyerly Town Hall.
