Last month, the Georgia Public Service Commission gave the green light for another rate increase from Georgia Power. Already in 2023, Georgia Power customers saw their rates rise by around 12%. The latest approval was a request from the state’s largest utility for more money due to cost overruns at nuclear power reactors at Plant Vogle. The latest approved rate increase by the commission tasked with protecting Georgia consumers will mean an additional $8.95 on average for Georgia Power customers. The new rates increase is expected in March of this year. The regulatory agency is made up of five elected commissioners from different parts of the state. All of the PSC members are Republicans.
